Has anyone heard or had any dealings with mixing LPG with diesel. Would like to get power figures and economy figure if possible.

Goona,
I seem to recall there being an article in one of the 4wd mags some time back. I will have a dig around and see if I can find it.

It is not a viable proposition if that is what you were wanting to know

I found the article. Powerhouse Performance fitted the system to a 3 litre Hilux. They claim a power gain of up to 27% and a fuel saving as high as 15%, obviously depending on how it is driven.
The article was from the 2000 Annual 4wd Monthly. The mag itself did no testing though, it was more like an ad for the company in question.
Fully installed they quoted $2500 for the Hilux, with a two year unlimited warranty.

It was alson in a far more current one - mid 2003 Australian 4wd monthly.
Sounds highly interesting to the smokers - heaps more power, cleaner emissions and even furtehr reduced running costs.
See the benefits are not just the price of LPG (which loses it's tax exempt status in 2008) but mixing the diesel and petrol together actually improves the completeness of combustion of the diesel - and quite a large amount too.
Understandable considering how difficult diesel is to ignite, if there was a second fuel in there to help it start to burn it would burn much better.
However be warned - if you mix too much LPG in it will blow your motor. Approximately 20% is the optimum level, with noticeable benefit from about 5%. Over 30% is possible with certain combustion chamber designs and compression ratios - but most diesels will be risking detonation at much over 20%.
A job for the experts. Seriously worth considering if you were looking at paying out similar or more money for a turbo.
PS DONT try this with petrol - LPG and petrol simultaneously can go boom at almost any ratio - that's why you had to be so careful to turn off the fuel and run dual fuel cars dry on petrol before switching on the gas....

I posted this very same question on this about a month and half ago. I was at Landcruiser Park Mountian and seen a brand new diesel patrol TD with a gas cyclinder fitted under the tray in a drag race. The bloke on the mic was raving about this concept and I thought her was justbleep, but apparently this diesel gas mix is about. I seen the sales rep at a sales site to enquire about this concept (sorry forgotten the name of the company) and he said that this mixing gives more fuel economy, better performance and gives longer life to the engine because it runs at a cooler temperature. His cost was around the $3000 mark.
Do a
check in the archives, I got a lot of responses from it that might help you.

have a super charger fitted to my 4.2 diesal patrol and got talking to a bloke who races patrols at land cruiser park, from what i can gather this mix is more for extreme 4x4ing, this guy had a set up of a 4.2 nissan turbo wound out to the max with gas pumped into the fuel mixture, pump wound up to the max, he looked at my S/C and liked what he saw and was going to set up the patrol with the turbo and a S/C with gas pumped into the S/C , but he was honest with al the mods specially the gas injection he has blowin a few motors, but he wasnt worried cause he said lucky its a nissan cause if it was a tojo it would have cost him twice as much. Hello folks
The LPG injection system is made by ATS in the USA and is designed to inject into the intake of the turbocharger on a turbo diesel. There are 2 basic injector sizes - small for economy and large for power. This is a very cost effective system for long haul trucking and is now being fitted to interstate truck in Oz or so I've been told. Try a few search engines.
I don't think the system is small enough for some of the smaller TD units in 4x4s and it may be too expensive, but look it up for yourselves at
