has anyone installed an external
tank in a Prado (98) and if so where have they found the best location for it?

hi kerrod,
yes i have after i crossed the simpson twice and got really tired of not being able to splash some
water quickly into my face or make a cuppa in a hurry.
I have 3 90mm PVC stormwater pipes accross my roof rack with 19 L and the hose runs along the
snorkel down and i have a simple garden tap on the end.
Should have done it years ago.

I installed a mesh basket in place of the passenger bench
seat. This contained plastic 3X20litre and fridge. Basket locked down on
seat mounting points. installed removable platform to level the footwell between the basket and the passenger front bucket
seat. on this platform sat another 20lt
water with tap. Open rear pax door to get to fridge and
water.
Water slid out far enough to run
water into billy etc positioned on side step. Worked
well. Under platform was manual and other low use items. Removal of
seat gives major weight and space saving.
Cheers
Chris

Thanks Chris
i guess in your instance there were only two or one of you in the car. i need to transport 5 so suspect the trailer option is looking more and more obvious. the advantage in keeping something on or within the car is when you do trips away from the
camp you don't want to have to take the trailer all the time.
cheers

What about putting a
water tank from a caravan on the roof rack, This is what I am going to do.
You can get one from a caravan
shop for about $150 for 60 + lt, the sizes vary, this would also give you hot
water for a shower etc( on a sunny day).
Cheers Steve.
