Has anyone had any luck with purchasing an efficient 12 Volt fan
that draws very little amps? I have a slide on camper running on a 115 amp hour battery. I referring to a quiet fan that would be used to create a breeze over the double bed.

hi Colin, i put a 9 inch 12v fan from a truck place in, draws about 1 amp. and is two speed. BUT, i found that even though they are very quiet they still seem to get on the nerves a bit. SO what i did was put in one of the computer fans, about 100mm, bearing ones. very very quiet, and surprising how much breeze those fans give out. enough for a nice gentle flow of air all night and draw no amps.
cheers shane.

Thanks Shane.
I will get one tomorrow. I have ordered and paid for a 1.4 amp fan from a marine place but have not received it yet. On an Archived article a member wrote of these computer fans. Good to hear of your results, I will have a go at both. Thanks for you reply. I will let you know how I go.

Colin,

You can get little 12 volt fans from K Mart, Big W etc for less than $20. Only draw about 1.5 amps and very effective.

Not super quiet, just a gentle noise that you will get from any fan.

i tried one of those cheap fans, first night the control box (plastic) got so hot it started to melt. took it back and was told" they are not meant to run continuously all night. i felt that it was not worth taking the chance with a cheepy again. so went and got a proper one that the semi drivers use. they run them for hours at a time.

Shane,

Maybe you got a dud.

We have two of them. One has taken an absolute thrashing; one of my Son's has used it in his bedroom ad nauseam running off an old 12 volt power supply. You couldn't kill the bloody thing with a stick.

As an alternatvie, the boating places have similar fans for around $120.

From all reports they are much quieter and draw 1.5amps also

Only use if the computer fan thing doesn't have enough air flow for you

Regards

Rolande
