Has any owners of ZD30 powered Patrols had any personal experience of an oil leak from the gasket between the engine front cover and the front end of the head? The oil appears to be coming from the left front corner of the sump but it actually runs down the block behind the alternator and the air condioning compressor mounting bracket then drips on to the front axle.

we thought the 80 series needed a new gasket but were told that they are made of rubber and to just tighten it.....try this...may help....

Hows the Mihindra going Laura ?

By the way get Nathan to put a real clamp (flat wide stainless, and not those shytty Nissan wire ones) on the air inlet going into the front of the turbo, you will find it will probably weep oil, from under the rubber, fairly soon.

Worried me like anything, till I swapped to a more conventional clamp , funny thing no more weeping !

Cheers mate

Not personally but have a friend that had the same oil leak on his, repeatedly!!
Apparently it isn't uncommon from what he was told by the dealer.

Yep that is the one. Took 7 working days. Apparently there is an oil feed or drain pipe from that area to the sump so the sump has to come off and they say there is two bolts at the back that you can't get at with the transmission in place so the donk had to come right out apart from all the gear at the front end that had to be removed just to get to the front cover. Does that sound about right? All done under warranty only done 60 000 km and no gey sealant now, all red stuff (everywhere) looks just like "Cat red" which I am pretty sure is Loctite Grey Max anyway just coloured red.

It took 17 hours to do mine. The sump had to be removed. Mechanic was a bit upset as it was warranty for me but Nissan's error.

Yep,

Had mine fixed recently. Apparently Nissan have been using a sealant that oil loves (yum yum) in their gasket repair kit.
Is the gasket sealant a grey colour. If so it is the faulty batch. If it is dark red it is the correct sealant. Nissan should address under warranty if this is the case.

Yeah it was grey but is red now only done 60k and still under 3 yo so no warranty worries. How long did they take to do yours?

Warranty,

17 hours labour and lots for the gaskets. The new stuff is $80 per tube.

Very disappoint with Nissan though.

It is a continuing saga that has seen my motor either replaced or rebuilt 4 times since June (this year). Some of this is because of incompetent mechanics ( I use the term mechanic loosely ) around the big Zoo where the motor was rebuilt and Wellington in NSW where the motor was incorrectly installed.
