Gday Mob!
Well we've made the move the move down from
Darwin to
Newcastle, and whilst the temp will take a bit of time to get use to the place looks pretty good. It looks like we'll have a few weekends off in Dec (incl. a visit from the Outlaws...) so my question is re. local spots to explore. Have to make them day-trips at this point but any advice greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Benno
P.S.Has anyone else had issues with links to the 4WD clubs section?

Benno,
I guess it's the season to move, if needs be: crikey, long way S mate. Our Oldies were
Toowoomba, and we came as far as
Cairns.
Best wishes eh, and no, can't help.

Go to 4wdnews.com.au/cms/index.php?module=pnAaddressBook&func=main
Pick one to suit your location.
Newcastle is a good centre to work form and there would be a lot of one day trips that you can do that will give you an insight into what is available for you to explore.
Go to the Myall Lakes it is a top spot and the only eyes watching you are on things you can eat not on things that eat you.

Try the Barrington roads out of
Gloucester, Tapin Tops out of
Wingham or
Gloucester. Lots of options in these areas. Can go right through to
Scone with several camps in above
places.
Welcome to the south!!

Welcome to the Hunter!
You could try a few of these:
Lake Macquarie - you could do a day trip driving all the way around it - stop off at
places like Belmont, Warners Bay, Booragul, Toronto, Rathmines, Wangi, Morisset peninsula, cut across through to Pacific Hwy and Cam's Wharf, Catherine
Hill Bay,
Caves Beach,
Swansea (be careful of razor fish in Lake they will cut your feet)
Watagan Mountains
Mt Sugarloaf
Pokolbin - Hunter vineyards
Port Stephens -
Nelson Bay -
beach drive to
Stockton (need permit)
Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens
Central Coast
Hawkesbury River -
Wisemans Ferry - old Great North convict road
Barrington Tops - Dungog - Allyn River -
Gloucester
etc etc - just a few ideas!
Enjoy!

There's a beautiful
camping spot at Woko NP on the banks of the Manning River which was like a bubbling brook when I was there. Bushwalking no 4wding.
