Nice one. Saw similar front page photo in SA local paper about 10 months ago.

Here's the parallel: earlier this year I lifted a redback out of the dunny at Kolai Hut in Gawler Ranges and dropped him outside. He was fully mobile and departed. I noticed he gingerly sidestpped a nearby ant highway - those really small black ants that stream along about 2-3 wide. So I decided to see why the red back's response. This time I dropped him right beside the highway. One leg intruded into the highway. He was instantly paralysed by the very first contact and curled up within 10 seconds from further hits.

Snake - redback - ant

Sterr clear of the lot I say

Chris

That would keep the Red Back in foor for awhile I guess?

Shows how strong the spiders web is to support the snake like that.

While on the subject of this particular Redback can anyone confirm if it is still there, I think the suburb was Ormeau or Tanah Merah near Beenliegh and could be seen from the Pacific Mwy North bound

It's at Redback Landscape supplies in Eight Mile plains. Right beside the freeway, just before the Gateway Motorway turnoff. The 4b in the background of the second shot is on the Freeway. Still there...

Doug,
Yes it's still there. Redback garden centre at Underwood on Brisbane's southside. The road behind it is the gateway motorway on ramp.
