CLC,
Bloody Brilliant!
How easily detached are they?
Tried to post a close-up of our unit today, but my hands work better than my brain, and The Brain rejects the ether. Result? No image.
Onya.

Hi Jeff
I used Trojan Aluminium door runners bolted under roof rack at a cost of $394 included 8 wheel sets & two lengths of track 4.5 Lm long, Cut into 3 Lm ea & one Piece @ 1300 to fix on top of runners to fix Lights to @fixed with hex head bolts that fitted in the top grove of track so the wheel support nut does not catch on hex head bolt.( you might have to cut down wheel support nuts if you height between roof & roof rack is tight )
I purchased 2 lengths 6.5 long 6mm 42 x42 aluminium ,which I cut into 2 pieces @ 3Lm long & 4 cross pieces @ 920 long for cross supports two to support the solar power & two at the back one to frame & one to the runners with rubber stops & bolt the two in centre when travelling, Pop rivet frame together 8mm x N11

Runners

Ready to slide in

Just thinking about it CLC. We did something a Bit similar, in that we slung the panel on Al. box, suspended below the roof racks, 'cause the bars were there for the kayak plus general freight, NOT the panel.
Yep, we have 4-7mm between roof and frame, same on top. Not a worry in three trips to the corner store, eh. Hahaha. Loveit.

Nice set up. It even acts as a sun shade for the interior of the car!

Hi CLC50,
Like the concept! Gets them neatly out of the way when travelling.
I have panels permanently attached to the roof rack (as in my profile pics) coz I fear losing the panels to some low-life if the panels are sitting on the ground. Only problem with the fixed panels is that the vehicle must be in the sun, and my fridge sits inside in the heat. Anyway, I get enough sun to run the fridge and recharge the batt despite it being in the sun.
