Buying a Caravan Feedback

We are looking at buying either a pretty new or new caravan in the first six months of next year, and the problem we have is that we have a Nissan Terrano II - the handbook says we have a ballweight capacity of 100 - very hard to find a van this low - we have found a few, but this problem really limits what we can buy - we are asking everyone what can be done to solve this problem, save buying a new vehicle, because we love our car - so I read all the posts in the forum, etc, to see what we can find out - it seems one of the best is the Avan (not the A shape one) with rear or side kitchen - single beds - no omore than 17ft, so this is probably what we will go for, if we can get one when we want it.

I don't think there is much you can do about the ball weight problem.

The other issue would be the Max towing weight. What does the handbook say?

dont forget to add the weight of your load - in car and inside the van. you maybe surprised how quickly it all adds up

Going on the accepted 10% rule the max van you should be comforable with would be around 1000kg loaded. That really cramps your style. I would suggest you should be looking at no more that a road going 14 foot van or camper trailers or A shaped A van. You would still benefit from a weight distribution hitch.
You need to compromise somewhere - Its a bigger vehicle (higher ball weight capacity) or a smaller than planned van.
Happy hunting but be be careful that you allow for van and vehicle loading as previously stated.
