MAVERICK(WA)
I have saved my little monies and eagerley went along to the 4wd show in
Perth on the weekend to get rid of it on one of the new beaut all singing and dancing Magellan Triton GPS units. The salesman (not a person but a man) said sorry but not yet - there have been a whole lot of software problems and the release date has been put back until maybe next month but most probably early 2008. I can't believe he was having me on as being a real salesman he wanted my money. Any smarties out there able to shed any light on 1/ are there really problems with the software 2/ if so what are they - please not too geeky 3/ are the problems with the US versions or just ours. 4/ has any person/s imported the US versions and converted the mapping to Aust?

Hello - based on info I have obtained form other user forums the Trition GPS has not been released anywhwere, US included. There are a couple for US online stores and 1 US based person on eBay claiming to have them for sale but local (US)
forum users have stated with authority that they are not even avialable from certified Magellan distributors so looks like someone has jumped the gun.
No idea if delayed release is software/operating system issue but wouldnt be surprised as I am sure it happens with most new electronic products of its type. Sounds more like they shouldnt have said they were "coming soon" when they were "coming later". There has never been any real difference between US and Australian Magellan GPS units - apart from a simple basemap and PRICE.
Cheers
Greg

Yes - what The Explorer said is correct. There are a lot of angry Magellan GPS users in the US at the moment - unhappy about some of the claims being made by retailers who haven't got any Tritons to sell!

Hi
The Triton may not be available yet but Magellan have got rid of all the eXplorist range to wholesalers in anticipation. I just bought a eXplorist 600 with shipping for AU$240 from America and they can have the Australian Base Maps loaded.
