Hi all,

planning on fitting a set of OME shockies to the rear of my 2005GXL,and was tossing up the thought of fitting standard height OME springs while I was at it, but was wondering about the degree of difficulty or pitfalls by fitting the springs myself.
Due to budget constraints and the likelyhood of divorce if I did, I won't be doing the front struts at this stage.
Would this have any impact on handling on road?
I don't plan on going off road for a while and am only using the car for commuting and towing a 1500kg boat.
cheers,

The fronts are your only problem as they are spring over shock and need pressing of the new springs on to the old shock. You might have to take the front units to a suspension specialist to get the springs on then refit to your car.

Thanks Wizard1, I realize that the fronts are struts and beyond my expertise and budget at this time.
I'll be getting specialist to do those later on.

If your only doing the rears then its a no brainer I suppose.

I get all my suspension work done by the specialists. I used to do it years ago on other cars now I just couldn't be bothered and pay the extra.

That way I have some fall back if there is a problem.

Had the fronts done a couple of weeks ago and had the sway bar bushes replaced with Nolathane. Consider replacing yours when the time comes as well.

I would strongly advise you to fit Bilstein shocks at least to the front. They seem to be the only ones where cracking in the body doesn't seem to happen.
