Well, I haven't got more than one brand of snorkel on my 80, so I can't compare them, but I reckon the Safari looks better.Mine has done a lot of very rough km since I fitted it, and no problems.

In the end, any snorkel will be better than none, as long as the joints are sealed to prevent water getting in where it shouldn't.

Cheers'

Hi Geoff

I don't know about that. When I bought mine, all I had to choose from was whether it was for a diesel of a petrol model. I would think that the position of the air filter intake would determine how far along the guard the snorkel runs before entering the bodywork, so my guess is that petrol or diesel may have the intake in different places. Just a guess though, as mine only has one engine LOL.

Cheers

I reacon your thinken about a 100 series, they have a short piece on the guard. All 80 series have the longer section, just depends on which side it goes on.ie petrol or diesel.

We have a Safari but Airtech weren't about when we fitted it. Airtech inlet head can not be turned to face the rear when you are coping heaps of sand or dust nor can you fit a spinner top to it.
You can do both with a Safari and you would be surprised how much dust ends up in the spinner.
Your choice.

Geoff,

IMHO I think they are all the same as far as how they work - so it comes down to how it looks and what you like the look of.

In regards to turning the head - some guys turn the intake around around in dusty muddy conditions - but this is main the comp guys who go hard and fast.

Geoff.
We have a safari snorkel. I reckon it looks better than Safari. I wouldn't turn the head around though, this just makes it harder for engine to suck in the air. Don't fit sock or foam in the throat of the snorkel, you might lean out the fuel air mixture too much. Also I wouldn't reckon on any 'ram air' effect performance which is what some drivers will claim. I would recommend having it professionally fitted by people with experience as the cutting of the wing and sealing is CRITICAL.
Finally it pays to periodically clean the little canister underneath the air-cleaner. This catches heavy particles, insects water etc. It's amazing how many people forget about this. Just feel around the engine side of the canister underneath and you will find two clips.

I fitted a small ball valve to the drain on the canister your talking about so i can lock it off on deep water crossings.

If the engine is not running mid way through a crossing i can imagine water entering there.

Maybe overkill but i don't care.

Safari is the best, they brought out a new rounder design about 4 years ago now....the airtech is of smaller internal diameter and is 2 piece with inside the guard transition piece, so more chance of a leak...i just installed a safari and it was very easy to do, using the template they supply with it..
