I have to be in Calliope on Monday for a Job interview with the local council and was wondering where I could stay on Sunday and Monday nights.

The interview is a 3:30pm QLD time so I have the option to travel before and after the interview.

Any recommendations??

I'll be staying in St.George Saturday night on the trip up and who knows where on Tuesday night on the trip home :))

Cheers Kev
Who is getting closer to getting back to QLD haha

I forgot to add, I don't care if it is a motel but I'll have the swag with me.

Kev

You don't say if you are camping or not.

There is a caravan park in town. Not the latest and greatest but we have found it OK.

If after a free camp there is a rest area about 15-20k south along the road down towards Many Peaks

Motels - some near the intersection with the Bruce Highway (10-12k away) or you could go 20-30k and you would be in Gladstone.

Alan,

I'm undecided about whether I camp or not. It may end up being easier to either Motel or get a cabin.

G'day Kev

I'd recommend you have a look at Tannum Sands, either on the way up or the way back. A very pretty little beachside town about 25 klm from Callliope, and just south of Gladstone.

George

Cheers George,

I'll check it out, I am going to do some house hunting whilst there to kill time on Monday morning so will probably get to see a ew of the smaller local towns.

Another vote for Tannum Sands. great Caravan Park down the bottom near the water or there is a Hotel near the shops...nice place.

That would depend on what you did to get in there, If you did you did the same offence ..96..or..80.. times in a "series" of events ....then it would be free,

Try This

For a great free camp try here.

For local info on motel MM Bros. He even drives a Cruiser so you may just get along hehehehe. I have plenty of mates (1 anyway LOL!!) up there so no need to motel it for me, so I am no good in this dept.

Best of luck.

I'm not sure why Alan H has the idea that the Bruce Highway is 10 to 12 kilometres away.

It is only 1 Kilometre to the Bruce Highway from Calliope and there is a Motel right there, We locals call the intersection of the Dawson Highway and the Bruce Highway the Calliope Crossroads as it is considered when you get to the Crossroads you are in Calliope.

Sorry I can't comment on the quality of the Motel as I have never stayed there.

Regards
John

John,

I don't really care about the quality as I think it will only be 1 night now. I'll give them a call thic morning and see what they can do.

Would it be too rude if I ask what job Kev? If you are keen to get close to the Sunshine Coast (noted by the Redcliffe interview), let me know. My wife owns a recruitment agency. She & her team recently won the Caloundra Business Awards for Professional Business of the Year 2007.

Stefan,

I am after Building Certifier positions. I prefer Local Government at the moment as I still have a few injury issues from my time in the Army.

My wife says that if you are keen to come to the Sunshine Coast, you should send your Resume ASAP to sally@hrmcc.com.au or call her ASAP on (07) 5438 2299

She may be able to help as she has a couple of positions for Building Certifiers.

Hi Kev,

We stayed with friends on Boyne Island about a month ago which is next to Tannum on the Calliope side. Has some nice houses but the prices are pretty steep unless you have a job in the mining/smelting sector! There was at least one motel that I saw.

Good luck,

Adrian

I have been checking house prices out via the internet and they are pretty high LOL

I may end up buying a block of land and build yet. So I'll have to rent for a while till it's finished, I don't think I'll have problems getting the plans through council ;))

Cheers Kev
