We are considering fitting Gas injection to our 80 series manually injected Turbo Diesel 'Cruiser. Our requirement is for more power for towing. We have previously discarded the idea of intercooling after feedback from this Forum.
The two main companies that make these systems both feature Nissan Patrols in their advertising.
Are there any 80 series 'cruiser owners out there who have had gas injection fitted and who can tell us how it performs?
Thanks Ralph C.

By gad Sir!

You ARE a indeed dreadful excuse for a Riverland 4WD club role model.

It would behoove you and that other chappy you consort with in Berri to both lift your game and behavior on this forum. (I am talking about the one who allegedly lost his thongs in a storm. More like under someones bed and had to make a dash for it to maintain his well being)

I just hope he is of a better standard 7mths time (approx).

No! that little hiccup of a few weeks ago didn't change me too much, just made me realise how easy and quick it is for one to pass to the 'other side'.

I have been told that I have to be calm and cool during the recovery phase and not let things 'bother' me, so I just take an extra pill in the morning and all is good. (never leave home without them.)

Lucy Lucy, How can you lower my standards by comparing me to that other chappy you were addressing this reply to, I am of a much higher standard.

This is easy to obtain proof of. Just grab any GPS and you will see I live approx 2.5kl's further from Victoria than the other bloke so I must be of a much higher standing.

As for the errant thong, this was of the foot design, the other was under my pants and gave me hell all night until I realised it was on back to front.

“manually injected”? Are you using syringes? Is it better from fuel economy point of view then using high-pressure pump? And does not it bother you during long trips?

My Dear Serg,

I was indeed using syringes a couple of weeks ago for injection purposes - 100's of em and I am still black in blue in places. (LOL)

Now the LPG injection has nothing what-so-ever to do with diesel high pressure pump and injectors. They function as normal.

In the system that I have had fitted to my 1HZ Troopy, the Turbo activates the the LPG injection when it reaches the boost setting selected.

The LPG in gas form is then injected into the air intake - pre turbo - and enters the cylinder head as mixture of compressed air and LPG.

So! if and when you happen to run out of PG the engine just runs as it did prior to having LPG injection fitted.

Oh! to the contrary, when on long trips it is just fantastic.

Serg,
I was making the point that 80 series are manually injected since some owners of later model 'cruisers suggested I get the vehicle chipped. I leave that to the dog!

Hi Lucy,
I rear your thread 50031, since having the system fitted has it performed to the makers claims of more power and less consumption?
I also read thread 50030. It appears forum members got sidetracked by reports of Petrol engines running on diesel or a mixture or diesel and gas, this is irrelevant to my query.
Thanks

Ralph

It works like a dream.

The power increase is very discernable, however power comes at a cost.

In the case of 4WD's you mainly fit the LPG for power and when you get it you tend to use it. You know what I mean, the temptation to drive it like a petrol version away from lights etc etc gets a bit hard to resist on occasions and the consequences are you use a tad more fuel.

When towing and touring its the same, the extra power allows you maintain speed up hills and when passing = very easy driving. Again using a tad more fuel than usual.

The fuel usage is all about how you drive the sucker.

I personally didn't fit LPG for that reason, I did it for power and pollution reduction.

Apparently even the latest and greatest of diesel technology engines only burn between 75-80% of the fuel injected and either dump the leftovers as black soot laden smoke or treat it with anti-polution devices.

It is claimed that the LPG at the right setting will complete the burn in the cylinder of the left over fuel, thus eliminating nearly all of the soot and other polutants, with extra power being generated accordingly.

I drive by a EGT data logger and have noticed that the EGT's rise noticeably slower.

This should give you an idea as to how simple, small and easy it all is

Lucy,

By stating "The power increase is very discernable",

When you own a Yota and go from nothing to 10KW I guess this would be a huge increase in power...LOL
