I have a 100 series that had the thrust bearing replaced at 97000km by Toyota. The "new" thrust bearing is now making noise at 183000 (Only 86000km) and the Toyota dealer doesn't give a toss. Has anyone else experienced a thrust problem like this?
This vehicle does no offroad and has been well looked after.
Your response is appreciated
Thanx

is it really noisy or just a bit noisy?. its quite normal to hear it when your parked next to something that the noise can "bounce" back to you. ie brick wall, another car, house etc.

Thanx Sam,
no - it's really noisy - I know what you mean, but it's definately the bearing. It was never like this when new, just picked it up one night when in the garage. It's only going to get worse.
I am just wondering if there could be an alignment problem that is causing premature wear on the bearing?

Browne...alignment isn't normally a cause for thrust bearing failure.

Usually clutch adjustment is. Most vehicles are supposed to have the fork pull the bearing out of contact from the diaphragm when your foot is not on the clutch.

What type of actuator does the Hungy use....cable or hydraulic? Some hydraulic do stay in contact but with little to no pressure.

Otherwise a possible cause is resting your foot on the clutch pedal, even slightly will accelerate the bearing failure.

Matt.

Is that the 'tick....tick.....tick.....tick...' noise that I notice at idle and slow speeds? I did get under the car last time I serviced it and had a fiddle with the clutch throw fork and it stopped with just a little pressure.

From what I've heard, it is a very common problem and is merely annoying...unlikely to fail. Anyone know anything else?

Cheers,

Mark

Thanx guys,
Matt it is hydraulic clutch and no - I dont rest my foot on the clutch when driving. I have not changed my driving style and had no problem with any other vehicles in over 700000kms?
Yes Mark, it is a tick tick noise and very annoying.
I dont fancy adjusting the clutch to apply a little pressure to take the noise out as it shouldnt be there, as Matt suggests it would be like resting your foot on the clutch....no?
