Well it seems all my kids are now settling down and out of what hair they left me. Not that mine are any different to others and I guess in some ways mine at least stayed in Australia, a bit easier to visit.

Of course I must have had a lasting effect on them as they all bolted interstate with the two girls in Darwin NT and my young fella currently in Alice Springs. It would seem he is enjoying it there and has rented and is happy working there

Mind you I thought he was on Thursday Island lol ...... that was 3 months ago and while I was in Darwin I was going to fly over and see him, just as well I did not, cause he had travelled via an Island off Papua New Guinea to Alice Springs, he stopped off there on the way to Perth WA.

Popped into some place and asked for a job (owners probably still in shock someone wanting to work :) lol ). Well he loves the place it appears and is doing plumbing and a fair bit of landscaping work plus working in a food shop at night.

Last night he asked me over to have an Alice burger lol seems along way to go for a $ 7.00 burger. I guess I could say to the misses just going to duck down the road, as I leave, "see yeah in 6 weeks lol". As for this burger must be huge as its got my son stumped lol and that's a feat on its own as he's a eating machine and built like a pencil (I hate him) he eats and I put on his weight lol.

So if he stays put long enough I will plan a trip out there. So who lives in Alice? and what is there to see other than the rock and how long should I allow in and around the Alice 2 weeks? longer? stop for petrol and run for my life, I've already spent to long there..... in thought? lol.

So if you want to mess with his mind (I always do) just pop into Long John Silvers and ask for Tom and say "Dad said to say Hi" and have a burger for me :)

Now if the gathering does happen I may have to plan on Mt Dare area - Alice - Darwin - Brisbane have hols in May I think so time of year maybe ok at least.

So it is said parents can start saving when all the kids are gone or is it more like the parent have to learn how to fund transfer LOL instead of CASH

Time will tell

Brian

If this is the FIRST time they have left, don't get too comfortable sport "It ain't over yet". This is the common experience today.

My kids did a few false starts before finally making the move more permanent. I found that they seem to not come home again following marriage, but even that, in one case, was not the end as they split up a couple of years later and he came back to mum for comfort (and washing and feeding and fussing over him).

Love'em to bits but don't assume they have moved on, too soon.

Nope not the first time and I have been through the revolving door thingie although the eldest daughter I must have left a lasting impression lol she never returned once gone apart from holidays lol.

The second girl had a bit of recoil and is now sorted out :).

I'm pleased to say both have purchased homes in Darwin and as I see it I have two places for FREE accommodation and bludge space :). Of course that seems to come at a cost lol last visit I re roofed one place and landscaped the other, I might have to re-evaluate my thoughts on FREE are lol.

As for the boy he is a born boomerang I think, just when I figure he's out and where free at last, he blows in raids the fridge, drinks my beer runs up the phone bill his room resembles a bomb blast and before you can gather yourself he's gone again.

Now he's settled in Alice it seems for sometime I'm going to get him back drive or fly I'm going to raid his fridge and drink his beer while he's out working run his phone bill calling to bring more food and beer LOL ......... Dads revenge

Good one Brian,
when you get there have a drink for all your EO friends and give us all a ring to tell us all how much you are enjoying an empty nest. Go for it mate.
Colin

PS: There was a time in my daughters life when she was about 25 when only 1 man had ever asked her to get married.

It was me!!!!

About 20 years ago, we sent the kids to school one day and moved 250k's away. Buggers still found us and then moved away and did their own thing. Ones has come back home after 15 years and mum thinks it's terrific. I think it's good too as I get left alone a lot now but you'd think an atomic bomb has gone off in the house.

Hi Brian, Don't get to comfortable just yet. It has been our experience that when the buggers get married they multiply!!
& my wife spends more on the grand children than we spent on our own. We had to buy a bigger house a few years back so we could accommodate them all when they are home.
But we love it, so far three out of four married & multiplying with more to come. Wouldn't change it for quids.
