I have searched the archives and found some good info RE camping between coral bay and Yardie Creek. Unfortunately some of the threads are old and I sense some changes in the wind particularly with Ningaloo station and it's management. Is Winderabandi bay still a good spot to camp around April? Is access from coral bay side easy with camper in tow? I've towed in sand before and know what a dicey process it can be on narrow tracks! Any knowledge greatly appreciated. Cheers.

Can't help with the availability of camp sites but the track from Coral Bay to Ningaloo is easy, just need to take it slow over the limestone bits. No problem with a trailer.

Hi Mikeyprop3,

Winderbandi bay is, in my experience, the best spot up there. April is the best time to be there as far as weather goes and especially if you want to dive for crays. We tow our 6 mtr boat, fully loaded with camping gear for 4 kids and 2 adults for 3 weeks, with a 3 ltr patrol and have no problems as long as you let down your tyres and are very carefull if you tow on the beach. The tracks to Winderbandi Bay were pretty good when we were there.
Last time we were there (way too long ago!) was April 2006, and we payed our fees to Phil, at the station house before we found our camping spot. Cant remember what the fees were but can find out for you if you like.

regards
Michelle

Been to Winderabandi about 4 years ago, loved it, tho you must take in all your water. Reef only about 2-300metres out. check with Ningaloo stn, but I believe you may need to take a chemical toilet if camping near the beach.
Also worth considering is Gnaraloo and Quobba, both north of Carnarvon, but south of Coral Bay. Stayed a week at Gnaraloo's 3-mile camp a few months back, camping almost on the water, stunning pristine reef with coral and tropical fish right up to the water's edge. Flushing toilets and hot showers, tho brackish. You must bring your own fresh water, tho they sell it at the shop in large containers, along with other essentials and also satellite internet.
The Red Bluff bay at Quobba is brilliant as well, tho we didn't stay there - the scarp protects campers from the SE winds, which is a plus. Long-drop toilets at the camping area for Quobba.
Do a Google on both sites for info.
