Hello - based on info provided in question difficult to determine what level of map detail required (or budget)...so seems logical to me to suggest various options (as I did). Suspect that generally anyone should try free stuff first to see if it will suit their requirements. Nothing is lost except download time (and maybe small cost I suppose).

If the free stuff doesnt suit requirements then move on to the various commercial products. Would shop around though - ja prices are good but gpsoz prices appear to be cheaper, but havent compared all prices so dont take my word on it. Location of shops, service (if you need to drive to buy) and postage may also need to be taken into account as price difference may not be that different.

Cheers
Greg

I don't give a stuff about thier shonky maps. free maps , or what ever maps , If you want something for a Garmin that works, has it's supplied 25 digit unlock code , will give you voice guided instructions along with 1000s of POI's , then if I were you I would most certainly get the appropriate mapping software for a Garmin as per my previous posts , But on the other hand it's your money, your GPS, and if you feel you want to save money ...?? then go for it , just don't come crying on the forum that it won't work , or you have to get a code that won't work on someone elses copied software , Your choice .

You said
Well it sticks out like the ...you know what , that he would of course need for his Nuvi 660 City Navigator software that will give him voice guideance navigation from his GPS , Nothing else will be of any use .

No more comments need to go on and on for 2 days arguing for and agiainst free or paid software , I think his first simple valid question has been answered

Hello Doug, firstly its "The Explorer" not "Explorer", but you can call me Greg.

Secondly - Sorry, just trying to help. Apologies to those concerned if I got it all wrong or caused any harm.

Seems to be a few very rude, arrogant and/or grumpy people emerging on this forum lately. Maybe something to do with the weather..whatever....

All the best

Greg

Sorry about the Name error , I guess your comment about some being grumpy is directed at me, That's ok if it is , the problem arises by you and others that are reading text and cannot get the feelings through text on a screen , and really that's all it is , We all should know that a persons personality can not be fully shown through just text , And I must add that we all know that stupidity can be shown through text ..... There's probably 80% to 96% of ways to see that , ....cough, As for being grumpy Greg....No I'm not , I believe in a certain product or place , or item because I have used it, and had experience with it , There is no doubt in my mind there are other products that are better ,but when it comes to Maps & GPS I stick firmly to my belief that Garmin is the best and that might only be by a very small percentage in the case of Magellan , anything else don't get a rating in my book , The reason I guess behind my ideas about other map software is that I know 100% that the software I get and paid hard earned dollars for is going to work , All my life I like to do it once, do it right ,

Hello Doug - you have gone of on a bit of a tangent (though I suppose we are both off topic). I at no point suggested that your advice on using City Navigator was wrong, it is obviously the best you can get for the device in question, nor was I challenging you knowledge on the subject. All I did was suggest some other map products (some free, some not free, with City Navigator being one of these). I found your response to my first post bemusing (along with some of the other ones).

I was not arguing for or against any particular software/maps - I just provided a list to look at. My suggestion to start with the free ones is based on logic, it wasn’t because I though they would necessarily be better for intended purpose as there is good chance they’re not..but.. It is not up to you or me to choose what best suits Mick’s requirements - I am sure he is smart enough to figure that out himself based on whatever info he can get (e.g. replies to his questions by you, me and anyone else).

It’s not a competition Doug - it’s just a forum for people with similar interests and most importantly it’s all in the name of FUN, though I am getting the impression that some peoples idea of fun is different to mine.

Have a nice day

Cheers
Greg

I am coming to QLD (Townsville) in Jan. No idea where you live but if you see me on the side of the road (I will have no car, on foot, with exploroz cap and shirt on) don't run me over:)
