Anyone know how to bypass the F1 command to enter the Setup Bios on an HP Pavilion. My PC is bypassing it when starting up and I can't get into the settings , I feel it probably can be done through Command Promt but I don't the code to type in.

Doug,

It won't be bypassing it - but might be going quickly ;-)

Won't be at command prompt either - that's well after BIOS, both in start up sequence and system run level

Try pressing and holding the F1 key.

It must be bypassing it because it;s not giving me that opertunity to press F1 , I don't see the promt come up at start up , I think the problem is in VGA , it has a Code 10 problem, I tried to re load windows but cant because the Monitor won't start up so I can't see whats going on , apart from that the PC is working fine , maybe I could just leave it as such , but there has to be another way into Bios other than wait for the F1 . Either via Start /Run or Command Promt ,

Doug,

If you're saying you're not seeing anything at all on the screen, yes, suspect video card.

That will be why you aren't seeing the F1, and you may be getting into BIOS but not realising it.

You can't get into BIOS from DOS or Windows.. (except for some apps will allow you to view certain settings. At any rate, it won't help you here, even if you could

I think you need to concentrated on that video card

Yep, tried that and all i get is a black screen, even if I guess when the F1 option could be there it then just remains frozen , only way to proceed to Windows is Alt/Control/Delete and then it goes to windows , as I said after it gets to windows all is OK or I would not be typing this ,

Doug,

Unless I am missing something, switch off your computer and start it again. While it is firing up, press F1. Ie push the "on" button and hit F1 repeatedly until it stops booting. If F1 doesn't work try the other Fs. This will get you into the inner gizzards of the system but be careful. Write down what you change so you can reverse it later.

Hope this works

As well as trying all of the function keys F1 through F12 you could also try the delete key which on some pc's is the default key to get you into the bios to change settings.

Cheers

Try holding down the on off switch for 10 seconds to shut the puter down. Don't use the start shut down procedure.

Then re start it and see what happens.

If you don't get the F1 option then try below.

Also when you re start it tap the F8 key repeatedly as soon as you turn it on.

This should bring up the option to start it in Safe Mode, you may be able to se what is going on and change some settings.

On a HP it is F10 not F1 i think you will find. You carn't hold the key down from the start as the computer will think it has a keyboard fault. Just start striking the key every half second or so as soon as you hit the power button. It sound like the boot pause has been set to 0.

Returning to original BIOS settings
If you have made changes to the PC BIOS settings that you no longer need, use these steps to revert to the original factory settings.
Click Start on the taskbar.
Click Turn Off Computer.
Click Restart.
Press the F1 key when the colored logo screen appears during startup. (You have only a few seconds to press the F1 key before startup continues.) The Entering SETUP message appears and the BIOS setup screen opens.
Select the Main menu, if it is not already selected.
Use the arrow keys to select the Exit menu.
Use the arrow keys to select Load Setup Defaults from the Exit menu, press Enter; then select Yes for Load Optimized Defaults and press Enter to load the default setup.
Press the F10 key to save and exit BIOS, select Yes, and press Enter.
The PC continues the startup.

I did make changes but now can't get back in , As I said to someone the PC seems to be working OK

Should have five (5) seconds after you see the start of the HP logo on screen Doug to have pressed F1. Not to bypass but just to get the BIOS Setup page. No need to try it here though. LOL

DougT,
have a look at the power plug (Male end) where it plugs into your power point for the monitor.

You will see at the start of the pins that go into the power point that are insulated.

Try bending the ends of the pins out a little so when you plug it into the power point you will have to force it a little.

This will give a positive connection.

I had the same problem and also another chap, this fixed it.

The insulation is put there to stop kids electrocuting themselves if they put a knife between the plugs.

To get the plastic on and to fit into the power point, the pins are thinners so less chance of a good contact.

OK ..Loosen up everybody, here's how you re-set the Cmos in a PC ,Turn off the power, look near the Battery on the motherboard for a small set of pins with a little plastic bridge on it , like the ones used to set a Hard drive to Master or slave , remove it, there are 3 pins replace it to the other side of the 3 pins for 5 to 10 seconds then put it back where it was , that resets the Motherboard settings back to factory settings.
