Have a 2004 Terrano that the ZD30 (3TDi) blew at 35,000 km. Here in the Dominican Republic where we live, there are many others that have failed as well. Any advice on other power plant options that could be used in that vehicle would be appreciated. Don't know if any Toyota engine options would work, but they are plentiful and relatively easy to service with available parts supply on the island. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sorry to read of your problem , but in hindsight I hope you learned something, that is to purchase only items (not just vehicles), that have good backup service and reliability in you area.

Regards Nick

The Terrano is sold here as a Pathfinder, and I may be wrong but I think it was never sold wih the 3.0l Di. the current model uses the european 2.5l

However there are lots of nissan patrols here with the 3.0l and thre have been many reports of blown 4th piston and turbo blow ups in the 80,000 to 130,000km range

Look up GU index and search for blow up.

I take it's a Terrano II and they were discontinued here very late 1999 but sold for many years elsewhere until production ceased a year or two ago in the Barcelona plant. Later models came with the optional 3.0 Navara/Patrol engine as well but here the 2.7 turbodiesel was the best option. The vehicle always had the Patrol diffs/Navara driveline (so rear ARB Air Lockers are available).

The Nissan decision to use the 3.0 Patrol motor was indeed a bad one, and I can also say: investigate the possibility of fitting the 2.7. It might bolt straight in or with minimal mods. That's because Nissan, according to some websites, sourced their electric bits for the 3.0 "south of the border - down Mexico way"

The 2.7 Terrano II is a very underrated vehicle - no motor problems with Mexican quality electrics.
