I'm chasing PradOz from a post last week. If you're reading this mate, I'm wondering where you got the quote for your LPG installation.

Cheers,

Mark.

Try calling Jamie on (02) 9728 1977. My prado is a Dec 1999, first of the 2000 series but still model of old shape etc, same as in your photo of your rig. Mine also is petrol and auto. Cheers mick

Bugger about that, I'm in Victoria. Thanks anyway Mick. I've had quotes from $3000 (LPGas1 includes 2 year warranty on gas system & motor) to $4500 (a Holden dealer who then wanted another $400 for the motor warranty!!!).

Cheers,

Mark.

Hi Mark

pity you are in Vic. I got my conversion done and picked up Prado today. It runs fantasticly, no power loss and allready saved $40 on price of fill up I did this afternoon.

I spoke to Jamie today and he said if your vehicle is 2003 model onwards the cost will be more expensive due to the emission levels etc they have to meet. Hence the system is a different one. It involves a hell of a lot of work as he described all that has to be done. I really think the guys you have got a quote off are quoting for this higher level that is not required for your vehicle. They are trying to meet emission levels which you do not have to meet even with a petrol fuel system. You need to go elsewhere and get a quote on what you require for your vehicle only. To all the post 2003 onwards owners...sorry cant help you.

Mark give this Jamie a call to get the low down on what is required and he can set you on the right path. That way you can eliminate these guys that want to rip you off. The system they are quoting will be good, but it is too good and not required.

I am going to go get price break up and will list for you as a follow up after this. good luck...

Hi Mick, yep that was me. You'll be happy with his work I have been. Have you actually had the gas fitted yet ?? If so what did it end up costing you after the rebate if you dont mind me asking. Thinking of maybe getting it done not sure yet. I only do 20k a day to and from work and averaging about 15L per 100 round town. 12.2L last trip to Forster not towing. Will work out the out of pocket cost and see how long it would take me to recoup the difference.Regards Steve M

Hi Steve - It costs $2300 up front. You get $2000 back as rebate from fed govt. Maybe worthwhile doing it sooner rather than later in case trusty kevin07 decides he would be better off with the cash instead of handing out rebates??

It is in getting done today and I pick it up tomorrow. The only other cost is a Flash Lube Kit which is $70 but not essential. Depends on your thinking for that item. So the minimum out of pocket cost to you is $300 or maximum $370.

Jamie also gives you a car as a loan vehicle if you need it and is cost free for your use. He normally takes 1 1/2 days to install. He said he has done more Prados than any other vehicle. Keep in mind you lose your 90L petrol tank but when you put your mind to it there are ways around it if that causes a problem. (problem will probably be in your head really). He fits filler inside the existing flap and utilizes existing fuel guage on dash etc.

I get same economy as you and only did 7000kms last year in it. I believe I will get better resale one day and I get to save now also and I want the rebate just in case it ends up going or getting reduced. I will use the savings in running costs for other add ons, eg rear camera, tinting, on my van or holidays etc. I have spoken to many many people who actually have LPG installed and I have not had one bad bit of feedback. Also takes Jamie around 4 weeks to get the gear in for you so if you want before xmas you better put the foot down....

Give Jamie a call or two to answer your questions, he doesnt mind and is real easy to get along with. Also ease your mind by talking to people in car parks, on the road etc like I did. Cheers Mick

I was just thinking Steve that if you wanted to you could have a look at my LPG install when I go up to Rustys for the window tint. If you are interested in that send me some contact details and I will let you know when I am going. Should be either Sat 8th or Sun 9th Dec. Thanks Mick

Thanks for that Mick much appreciated. I was expecting a lot higher costs for the whole thing. That sounds like a really good deal. I havnt really thought about it too much due to the low klm's I do around town but for $300 or worst case $370 sounds bloody great and the thought of filling up at 50c per litre even better. Thanks again. Regards Steve M

Hey Steve dont talk to him for too long as I do want to pick my Prado up tomorrow :))

Also my offer for you to look at my install later at Rustys still stands if it suits you. Just let me know. Sounds like we have similar running costs each year. See you

I was also speaking to someone else earlier this week who said he had his fitted in his driveway by someone who does mobile installations for same price as I was quoted. He has had his installed for a few months now from memory and had no problems.

Incidently I got the number for Jamie from another guy off the exploroz site about 7 weeks ago who got Jamie to install his around a year ago. He said he has had no problems and recommends him and the LPG 100%.

Cheers again....

Mark - Check my reply somewhere above to your earlier answer to me PLUS...

Here is the itemised price for a pre 2003 Prado LPG kit/install as fitted today to my Dec 1999 Prado:

LPG kit $1675.
LPG for tank $25.
Labour $600.
TOTAL COST $2300.

I lodged my application for govt rebate this afternoon thru Medicare office. Should get the $2000 back in about 2 weeks.

Total out of pocket minimum $300. after rebate received.

In addition to above I fitted a Flash Lube Kit $70 optional.

I also had use of a loan car at no cost.

The sub tank switch ends up needing to stay switched on. Turn it off and you have a kill switch that most would not realize works that way. Nice bit of extra security...

Thanks Mick

Thanks for that Mick,

I hope you get a good run our of your Prado and that jamie gets the business he deserves! Paying 50 to 60 cents a litre will be great, I remember when I payed 18cents for gas...

The FlashLube kit at $70, was that fitted or did you fit it yourself?

Cheers,

Mark.

It was fitted for $70. I would recommend it to you.

In my case the total cost was $2370.

The tank sits a little lower than the original petrol one but i think is still higher than the spare that hangs below the cruisers. It is running perfectly, no hang ups at all.

Make sure you are happy with the fitter you use. He will have to do services, rego checks, gas mixture settings on a gas analyser etc. I am really happy with my guy and i will be happy to use him for all my services etc. He is much cheaper than my current one (ultratune) who has done all my regos, tune ups repairs etc for years. got to go where the money savings are hey - but only if they know what they are doing.

Let me know how you go with yours.

Best of luck Mick

Forgot to mention that I saved over $40 based on the fuel costs of the day on my first fill up for the LPG tank.

Also when you get it done ask where they fit the gas filler. Jamie fitted mine in with the original one and capped the obsolete hole. Better than bending down under the car to fill each time.

You should also do a small amount of running around on the petrol to keep the injectors etc clean etc.

See you Mick
