work recently went to a warn information night with a couple of the big cheeses over from america.
they mentioned they noticed when warn
winches were bolted into patrols with arb ect bull bars you have to turn them around to mount them.
the problem with that is on a winch there are two small holes where the motor bolts on to the rest of the winch
one at say 12 o clock and one at 3 o clock.
the idea of the holes is to let any
water that gets in the ability to run out.
there is 2 holes because some
winches bolt down and some bolt foward so there will be a hole at the bottom either way then the installer should fill the other one with silastic ect
problem with the partol with it being bolted on backwards the holes are now at the top and side.
solution is simple.
drill a 3 mm hole in the body of the motor next to where it bolts on to the winch and silastic the other 2 holes up.
since we found this out we have been checking all patrol
winches while being serviced if theres no hole we drill one and fill the others.
ive done 4 in the last week and 1 didnt need drilled.
to check if your is done is as simple as looking under the winch where the motor bolts on and see if you can see a hole.
you may have to remove the guard plate to see if theres one there.
then fill the other holes in
1 will be in front of you and the other on top near where one of the wires are conected.
hope this can help.

Given that the Nissan Patrol is one of the major 4WD vehicles across the planet I would have thought this was a major design error by either Warn or ARB?

sorry cant help with pics
but hole goes as close as possible to the winch body where the motor bolts on we drill out with a 3 mm drill bit
onnly drill through the outer casing about 20mm i guess you will feel when you hit nothing so dont keep pushing

I had my 2nd hand warn M10000 installed in my GU with ARB winch bar by a 4WD Service mob who told me it had been a fiddly job because it had to be mounted differently to normal. I guess that is what he meant, I wonder now if he knew to drill out new weep holes..... thanks for the heads up nowimnumberone, i will check it out ASAP.
