Has anyone purchased and used the extended warranty, is it worth it and did you have any trouble when making a claim, I have been quoted $1690 for a 3 year 150,000kms contract, I have travelled 60,000kms trouble free so far and my original 3 year warranty has just expired.

Mike,
is it the Manufactures extended warranty?
If not look into it, as most don't cover a lot of thing such as Injection pumps / some engine and drive line parts as they class these as normal wear and tear.
They usually tell you where to have your vehicle serviced and you must do what is required on the service.
If you don't they will dis own you when and if a claim is required.
Personally if you know the vehicle and know what condition it is in, I would rather keep up the
services and far cheaper in the long run.
Cheers

PS. $1690 for a 3 year 150,000kms contract.
In some cases you are paying them just to remind you of when to service your vehicle.
They must be making money to stay in business.

I purchased it and I am happy I did as I plan to travel some.
It gives me peace of mind for an extra 3 years as long as I don't exceed 150,000km which I think is not bad.
Bottom line is "I LIKE IT AND I BOUGHT IT"
I don't care what others think...I think it is worth it !!
Enjoy

Hi Mike,
I bought a 100 series V8 in 03 with the extended warranty to 100K or 4 yrs. I am now due for my 100k service. My 20/20 hindsight says it was a waste of money.
Under warranty I had the drivers front window motor replaced (<20k) and that's it. Bullet proof ever since. Serviced by the book by my own, non Toyota mechanic.
There may be some (limited) value but unless the vehicle was a 3.0 Nissan, or your planning on pushing the front diff, I'd save the money for fruit.
Good luck with your choice.

"Planning on pushing the front diff".... What a joke. You don't have to "Push" it, you just have to "use" it to get it to destroy itself. Then you will find from reading other threads on this site and others that Toyota will say it has been mis-used and will not give you warranty anyway.
I say keep you money and put it into upgrading the front end so it doesn't drag its nose on the ground all the time.
The rest of the vehicle will give little problems for probably another 300 000 klm.

Wilko
I destroyed my front diff at about 60k and Toyota did not question the warranty claim. I even booked the tilt tray from home to Toyota dealer out to the dealer and they paid that no question.
I was pretty happy with Toyota's approach to warranty work overall, not that there was a lot of it.
Only unhappy experience I had was the air con compressor dying at about 102,000 km and they originally were not going to help with the cost. In the end, they paid for the new compressor and I paid for fitting it.
By the way, no extended warranty so I cannot add to the original question.
Cheers

a lot of contracts are written so that you MUST get your vehicle serviced by the Dealer.
Also, they or should that be 'A Lot" generally do not cover wear and tear..meaning a noisy bearing may not be covered until it actually breaks/fails......low oil pressure could be treated the same.

Mike,
When I bought my 80series new I bought the extended warranty (Factory Toyota that is). I never had to use it.
In retrospect I think it was a waste but had I needed to use it and it was honoured without a fight it wouldn't have been a waste.
Catch 22 situation..........warranty or new fridge!!!!

I got the motor on the Toyota supplied superwinch replaced under my extended warranty. I also know of a number of people who have had diffs replaced.

Have pass through this exercise once. Not anymore for me. They charge way too much, do not cover everything and force you service your vehicle in certain
places (i.e. very expensive). IMHO does not worth it at all. I figured it out that it would be better to pocket money now and fix it by myself later. If (and this is really big IF with these trucks) something get broken down.
Cheers
