Hi Everyone,

Without getting into a brand debate I have a Uniden UHF and recently it has decided to have no audio. Squelch adjustment produces screen activity as does pressing the button on the mike, but as far as sound goes she is dead. Also the monitor is showing the radio receiving activity.

Have done a basic check of connections etc but haven't been able to work it out.

Anyone out there got any ideas that I should follow up.

Thanks in advance.

What model ? Do you use a plug in mike/speaker ? It is possible that a headphone jack which normally opens the speaker circuit when used may not be making the speaker circuit.

Brian B,
Is it a sundowner module,if so I think ever the volume control or the channel control also if pressed is the Quiet mode check you haven't pressed it accidentally.

Hi Folks,

It is a Uniden UH - 089.

Thought about quiet mode but the manual I have doesn't refer to it.

Not sure on your radio but I've fixed some that for some weird reason the audio goes through the mike curly cord, when the cord fails the audi went.
I'd go with trying an external speaker first though, I've had more fail that way.
Second problem would be dirt and dust in the volume pot, give it a good squirt of contact cleaner.

Dad had similar on his Uniden. It was the microphone. Go to a local Uniden dealer / CB shop (not Dick Smith or Strathfield, but a decent shop) and ask them if you can try a new mic in it to prove your theory. Should not be a drama and around $20-30 for the mic I would guess.
