Hi to all ......
Had an opportunity to take the Troopy and the Beagle on a longish 10,000 k's trip to Adelaide 'n return via the Gold/Sunshine Coast route to the Cape. Was away for almost eight weeks and had an absolute ball, of course. Me and the Beagle are now real close ??

On route from Burrum Heads picked up a tinnie for Brother1 in Charters Towers and got a chance to visit one of his 'secret spots' for a week of gold detecting.

Yep .... finally found my first piece, a gigantic .56 gram'mer!! That's a POINT 56 gram and that was it .... ylclept for Brother2 who actually detected a massive 480 plus gram'mer ........ truly !!

His FIRST real detecting trip, using one of my Minelab SD2000's.
Plus a 50 gms amd a 36 gms and about anopther 20 or so from 8.8 down to .23 gms. It just don't get no better than that .... over half a kilo of the good stuff ........ and I get a POINT 56'er.

It was hard yakka in them thar hills, of course, but as we were sharing anything over 4 ozs ...... it was worth it, ay !!!

The Troopy performed like a trouper, over 10,000 k and only minimal hiccups. A full week in the hills 'somewhere' out there .... only took 6 'lights' too, so had to celebrate with 'fizzy sugar water' and a couple of ports, plus about 3.5 syd-harbs of water!

The new 85W Solar panel did a sterling job keeping the Aux. topped up for the Engels, all my gear performed faultlessly [mostly], had a 5" matress in the back [rear seats removed] and slept like a baby after the gold finds, [ woke up every two hours crying for my mummy?]

The Beagle chased wallaroos, pigs, foxes, horses, rabbits [yep, bloody rabbits!] and something that appeared to be a cross between a bunyip and a large roll of Axminster carpet ??
Never got to see it meself but it made lots of noise and was surely big!!
also wanted to have a go at some Brahma cattle in the hills, but from the size of their 'swinging gunoonies' it would have been a losing battle....

She was also fascinated by what appeared to be trap-door spider holes, dug a few out before I worked out what they were.
All in all, it was just BEAGLE HEAVEN !!

Will try and post a photo of the nuggets as soon as I can work out how. I know there are a few 'forumites' who will be 'heartened' by the sight !!!

Why to go Pedro, sounds like you (and beagle) had a ball. Would love to do the gold detecting thing, just need the time and some gear and I'm away.

What detector do you use? or did you all share the SD 2000.

Hi Brian ..........
Thanks for your goo d wishes , we 3 bro's all had SD2000's , 2 modified, mine not.

Fotr the record paid about $1400 each for the two I own, Bro1 has his own modified SD2000, price NK.....

for me, just goes to show that you really don't need the latest technology to find the good bits .,.... just patience, true grit and the will to do it !!!

Our basic rule is : anything under 4 ozs. is to our own, anything over 4 ozs. is shared, amopngst those who actually detect on that rw ........... works a treat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know enough about the detectors as yet so not sure what you mean by modified. When i head down that path I'm sure to find out and all the cost of another hobby lol.

Good to see you all have an agreement, only way to go i dare say. One day I'll get my chance.

Keep having fun

Hi Brian ....

Modified detectors are simply 'older' models which are 'updated' with more 'oomph' to give better performanmce, without having to buy the next $ level detector ...... usually at around $5000 !! Mods will generally cost around $200 or so .... much more acceptable ......

When you find enough 'stuff' you then move up into the 'big league'rs. But why ???? My units are 10/11 years old and look what we found.

A bit like the old saying " you don't buy an Aston-Martin DB4 to learn how to drive !!! '

Good luck
