GQ Gearbox Oil

Hi,

I'm about to replace the gearbox oil in my GQ 4.2 ute and am wondering what is the best choice of oil to replace with. I live in North Queensland and do a lot of hard driving in very hot temperatures. Any help would be appreciated

Nissan's recommendation is

Normal temperatures .. SAE 75W-90 GL4
over 40deg.C .. SAE 140 GL4

Whatever ya use, make sure it meets the (API) GL4 spec...

Also, be aware that if you go with the SAE 140, you _may_ experience "cold-shift baulk" (difficult gear changes, particularly 1st to 2nd, and 2nd back to 1st) 'till the oil warms up....

FWIW, I'm using F u c h s (rhymes with "chooks") Titan gear 7590 (in a '99 GU).. This meets both GL4 & GL5 specs, and I have no cold-shift baulk whatsoever.. (YMMV)

hehehe.......
apparently the EO "swear filter" seems to have a problem with it (hence the spaces;-))...

I seem to recall the first time I'd seen the brand, I asked the seller "How the f u c h do ya say that?", and that's what he told me... "rhymes with chooks".. been sayin' it that way ever since:)

Reason I say that is that's my surname and I've heard every variation there is - even come up with some rippers myself. Nah, no relation to the oil company but the old man's cousins back in the fatherland made mag wheels for Porsche with the same brand name. When my daughter started high school a couple of years ago their email system went mental because of her email address. They had to alter the system just for her. Suppose we are just special... lol I put the same thing on my CV - rhymes with BOOKS

I use Penrite in g/box, t/case and diffs. You can go on their web site and search recommended oils and grades to use for each type of vehicle. I followed their recommendations and the g/box changes beautifully.
