highly recommended, get the gas burner ring as well for areas you cannot light fires. It is light, easy to clean and absolutely brillant. Got the bushking & big frypan along with the trivets, vege ring.

I own a couple of bits of their kit and have looked closely at their range over the years - excellent gear, well designed, well made and decently priced.

Franga,

I'm a big pan of the HillyBilly gear.

As far as Camp Ovens are concerned, there is no better product anywhere. The design of the lid, in the way it fits over the oven excluding all ash from the inside and the way the removable handle connects to the oven set it above the competition.

The lid also doubles as a practical frypan if required and as others have mentioned, the accessories such as the gas burner that can be fitted to the bottom, or top, of the oven and the vegetable ring help make the Hillbilly the most versatile camp oven, on the planet.

P.S. No association with the manufacturer, just a very satisfied owner and user.

You can buy either the BushRnger (7.5 litre) or the BushKing (12.5 litre) in a complete kit.

Boy looking at the current prices makes me even happier with my BushKing purchase. Bought mine a couple of years ago at a 4WD show for $220 for the complete kit. Now $358.

Still a good investment though.

P.S. If possible, choose the bigger BushKing as it will prove to be the most practical and versatile oven. I love ours.

Thanks for all the reply's.
Yes I agree they should have come up with an Aussie name - Billy Can Cookers or Ringer Roasters LOL.
Well it looks like I'll trade me old camp ovens in to get one, I have been TOLD.
Ya get that.

Regards

I have the Bush king, tivet, veg ring and the gas burner. I have had mixed results as posted on this site before.

I have spoken to the makers and have been given a new gas jet to fit to see if it generates more heat.

To date I have not installed the new jet been to busy (bugger). So cannot comment on its perfomance now.

Brian,

I also have the gas ring but hardly use it.

I prefer cooking by coals. More even heat distribution.
You simply measure the diameter of the Oven and add and subtract the number of heatbeads required. 2 more for the top and two less for the bottom.

For my Bushking, the 12 inch diameter results in 10 heatbeads underneath and 14 heatbeads on top.
I sit the Oven on a wire "cakestand" sitting in an old frypan to allow air circulation. You can also buy a Hillbilly pot stand.

I get consistent cooking results every time, regardless of whether I'm baking bread. (about 1/2 hour) or cooking a joint of meat and veggies.

I agree I have not problems cooking with the coals food turns out great. Its the gas ring I have had issue with, I just figure mine is faulty thats why the makers gave me a new jet to install.

We bought one of the 7.5l camp ovens and a bbq plate on legs and used both extensively on a 3 month camping trip through WA/NT.

Rate both very highly - especially the camp oven. Hadn't tried the cast iron ones, but the results and weight factor mean we'll probably never consider one. Love it.
