Hello,
I have found a terrano 1992 which I am very interested in buying next week, however there is one thing which is puzzling me, I jacked up the back of the car to see if it had an LSD in, by spinning one wheel and seeing if the other would spin forward as well. However the other wheel didn't spin at all. I have spoken to other terrano owners and they say if it's open the other wheel will spin the other direction.

So would this imply this diff is broken in some way? the car drives fine though!

Please can someone one help me!!!

Regards Barnaby

Barney, the advice you have been given is correct. Without a LSD if one wheel is turned in one direction and the driveshaft doesn't rotate then the other wheel must turn in the opposite direction.
With LSD, so long as the driveshaft is free to turn, then provided you apply reasonable force the other wheel will turn in the same dirrection. With the driveshaft locked (manual in gear or auto in park) you will not be able to turn the wheel.
Hope this helps.
