Was wondering if anyone has fitted extractors and changed rear muffler in there V8 100 series Cruiser.
Reason for enquiring is to improve economy when towing, and give it some more torque.
Have been quoted $1400,"would it be worth it?"
Regards Baz.

"would it be worth it?"
For the sound alone!
Depends on how you value things but I doubt you will see a significant improvement.
Off course I'm not speaking from direct experience.

Baz,
Have done both.
Not sure whether you will get a huge economy increase. Depends on how it is driven.
Throttle response and performance is certainly improved - probably about 5% realistically.
For 1500 you can install a Unichip or similar, which may be a more "cost effective" option for trying to improve fuel economy.
I am happy with the system I had fitted.

Paul

Sorry, both meaning the extractors and the cat back system.

Currently looking at doing same to our V8, have been quoted $1300 to supply and fit, and have been told that will improve performance and fuel consumption by up to 10%.
Spoke to our mechanic re above and he informed us that we would gain half a gear, so he is now looking into what a chip would do.

Nah, $1400 is a lot of stubbies or bottles of red.

"Williams Brakes & Mufflers Specialising in brakes & exhaust systems for cars, commercials and 4WDs. 83 Durlacher Street,
Geraldton. Phone: 08 9964 5999"
for info try the place above, one of the owners has a V8 LC and he has done the exhaust on it, sounds very nice and deep, not w*nky and tinny.

Once the restrictive muffler is taken out, as was the case on
mine, the sound will be anything but w*nky or tinny. The question is then to obtain the balance between note and noise.
The quieter the better without affecting performance for crusing in my opinion, as the V8 note is quite audible.
Some info here that may be useful, or not.

we remove the standard muffler, and fit a better unit, and replace the section from cats back, sounds very HSV "ish" and not like it needs to sit down to go twinkle any more, when installed.
Should be less than $800

Can those things be MAFless tuned like with the LS1 5.7? That will improve everything. I had Adventra done. Improve fuel economy, gear shifting, power increase to 285 Kw, and with a good exhaust, it has a great sound at both ends.
