I have a laptop with Windows Media Centre which I use for TV when away. It has always worked perfectly in the past. When I go to live TV it is now saying this: Cannot play video. The file type is not recognised and cannot be played. Either the correct codec (a file that compresses audio or video) is not installed or the file is corrupt.
Any suggestions please.

if you are near a harvey norman store, go in and ask one of the YOUNG guys in there. they helped me with mine when the tv stopped. from memory i think i had to go into add/remove programs and delete it, then restart and it goes and finds itself and reinstalls. something like that. sounds weird but it worked and these young "geeks" have all the knowledge and usually not backward at wanting to help as they often like a challenge. good luck with it, if i remember specific details on my tv problem i will let you know. now can you help me with my problem... doesnt matter, that computer will just have to sit there till i work it out. good luck

What is wrong with it If you elaborate we may be able to help. Usual problem with kids is the sites they gravitate to and pick up viruses.
Other end is users who dont update or even have antivirus and spyware programs.

Mikee5, things to remember, update everything, including firmware, if you are stuck i will be up that way next week visiting friends, and can help you.

Okay first things first goto your livetv thingy and look for update, if you can't find it try F1 or look in help!

if you cant see the update menu item then, you have to do it the hard way! goto your TV cards manufactures website and do a search, or MM me all the details and i will search out the drivers for you!

Good luck

If your being advised the Codec is 'wrong' etc.. just go to Umm, codec . com (or similar) and download an up to date newee.

Do you have the original MCE operating system?
