There's quite a lot about gassing diesels on this forum. 'Lucy' has had it done and is very pleased. He had EcoShot installed. I've been looking at different systems for 12 months for my Hilux. I'm driving an EcoShot vehicle next week. if I like the improvement I'm getting it done.

Why is it $4350 ? I remember it used to cost about $2000 less before the rebate was introduced.

Makes you wonder eh? I would not get it done here anyway as have had a couple of average experiences. I would have to cover a lot of kms before I would even look like breaking even. I look forward to see how much the price is when the rebate stops.

What makes me wonder is what the people do all day who work for " Fair Trading" or "Consumer Affairs" and all the other useless departments which cost us a fortune and do stuff all.
When they found out that the Diesel rebate wasn't past on to the consumers here in Qld what happened after that? did anybody get his as$ kicked? I don't think so........

As far as I know its only the computerised ones that cost over $4K and these have never been $2K, I must admit they have gone up though since diesel/ulp went over $1 a ltr. I guess part of its the same as everything else, supply and demand. Do we all believe that good complete Laptop PC with 1gig of Ram, DVD-RW, wireless Lan etc etc costs us around $1,500 and just for an add on chip (CPU) for a vehicle it is over $1200....Go figure...

Reiner: consumer affairs and fair trading are yet another toothless, taxpayer-funded govt white elephant. They exist merely to "facilitate" and not enforce.

These buggers have been allowed to load the whole of that $2000 govt rebate onto their price. Mine is of the dinosaur variety (pre-computer) and I'm quoted $4300. As I can claim through tax benefits it would end up costing around $1700, I'd guess but I'm still reluctant. Mainly because I'm unconvinced about the benefits and also reluctant to give these guys an easy pay-day.

with conversion: 75l diesel @ $1.5 = $112.50 plus 30llpg @60c = $18. Total for 105 litres (mixed) fuel = $130.50. .

without the conversion: 105l (diesel) fuel @ $1.50= $157.5

in addition to this there is a claimed improvement of fuel efficiency of anything between 20% and 30%. Pat Callinan, in Aus 4x4 Monthly has just done a trip report from the Red Centre and reckons just over 20% improvement in fuel efficiency. The sceptic in me says "yeah but that's an info-mercial" so even if we factor in a modest 10% improvement in efficiency, you're well in front.

Add to this, the increased power and torque makes it tempting.

Oh, and being a dual cab ute, I'll get the gst back as well as income tax relief so it should end up costing no more than $1400, which I'll get back in fuel savings within a year.

If somebody can wake me up, please do so before I take the plunge.

btw, I run exactly the same vehicle as Pat Callinan (Defender dual cab) so was interested in the figures. I normally get about 750 ks to a 75l tank. Towing @90kph I'll get 12.5l p/100 and at a100kph 14.5 p/100.

EcoShot cost $3900, including bigger bottle.
Operates from turbo boost, no computers or converters.

where was that from Twinks?

I see there are quite a few doing the EcoShot now. I've just been quoted $4000 which is $300 less than previous quotes.

I'm in Victoria. The quote was from Pakenham. I'm having the tank in the tray which is cheaper, but a larger bottle. You can find the fitters on the EcoShot web page. I chose this place to do it because he has done a lot of them and in particular my model hilux.
