Hi All,
Has anyone bought a long range
tank from RPM Fuel Tanks in
Adelaide? I am considering replacing the small 30 litre sub
tank on my Patrol with a 75 litre one. RPM sell one for $600 which seems a good price. I have never heard of them before and was hoping someone knew what their tanks are like?

If you can fit it in an ordinary 95 litre one will only cost you $200 at a wreckers with the pump and all in it. Depends if you want it certified or not

Standard GQ 95ltr tanks are $20 from LPG fitting
places. ;) GU's with subtanks already have pump and all, but the 95ltr wont fit where sub is.
So havent priced, but what are LRA etc subtanks worth compared?

LRA's replacement sub tanks are about $800 supply only last time I checked.

Their ads have only started appearing. They focus on the sub as a replacement when converting to LPG and claim lots of experience.
There may be issues with diesel however where the pump is outside the
tank. I'm pretty certain GU petrol sub tanks have an internal pump like most other pertrol vehicles. The photo ad I saw sure looked like a petrol replacement
tank.
As cost comparison, the other
Adelaide mob sell larger subs for $699.
The better known brands like LRA and Brown-Davis go for $950 - $1K
Hope this helps

Doesn"t matter whether a GU is petrol or diesel, they have the same external pump set up, just had the sub pump die on my 3lt and replaced it with a second hand one from a 4.5 lt petrol at 20% of the cost of a new one.

They do not have the same setup
A diesel is on the outside of the
tank at the front.
A petrol has it on the inside of the
tank mounted to the bottom.
And a brand new petrol doesn't come with a sub
tank anymore!

Thanks for the replies. It doesn't seem like there is anyone out there with one though???? I have spoken to Mark Sanders at RPM, apparently they have been around for over 20 years, use BHP steel, tanks are fully baffled etc etc, so they sound ok. I think I might be the guinea pig here and get one. If I do I'll post up some piccies and let all know how it goes. It would have been good to get some first hand feedback - but will try and get some contacts from RPM for references.

Moggs,
Couldn't you ask Mark Sanders if he would mind putting you in touch with some of his satisfied clients so you could get their testimonial? He could contact his client/s and seek their permission to give their contact details to you.
I've done that before myself (ie: been the "satisfied client" who has consented to be contacted by a prospective buyer......it puts you in good stead with the manufacturer if you should need any warranty work done or if you wish to buy any more gear in the future.....they will bend over backwards to keep you happy).

yep, that is what I am going to do. If he can't come up with anyone for me to speak with then that speaks volumes in itself.

Find out if they are a coated steel.
Hot rolled steel will rust.
Briteform will rust.
Cold rolled will rust.
Zinc coated (zinc anneal or zinc seal) will be OK with petrol, but the zinc will be gone after about 4 years on a diesel ( where does it go?).
Aluminised steel is not made by BHP but is a better option as the thin aluminium coating is suitable for all fuel including the new blended stuff and is corrosion resistant.
I Also ask what sort of warranty you have

Hey Moggs, where are u going that u need that much diesel? We carried 60l on the roof for the Simmo and I reckon that was overkill, was only gonna fill it at
Birdsville and use it ASAP.
$600 isnt too bad though.

If Mark from RPM make these anything like the street machines he has made and engineered over the years you do not have anything to worry about.
