Just installed a denco intercooler to my 79 series landcruiser 1hz motor.
Took it for a drive and had less power then before i installed it.
i upped the boost to 10psi after the intercooler, and wound up the fuel.
made no difference.
What am i doing wrong?
the intercooler is working well because the cylinder is substantually cooler then the manifold is.
any help would be appreciated.

Chris,
I have long been a believer that the fitment of an intercooler to an old-technology type diesel motor is a waste of money. (sorry).

This was borne out when, in 2005 when I owned a Patrol 4.2TD, I had Denco agent at Berri SA instal a new Denco turbo (to replace the small Nissan turbo). The increase in power was very impressive. I said to the bloke that I would start saving my pennies up for an intercooler and he said I should give it a miss. His opinion (and he sells em) was that any improvement in performance would hardly be noticeable.

I thanked him for being frank with me (as he could have encouraged me to part with another $2K)........

I reckon the intercooler technology is probably best suited to the high performance, relatively low displacement motors.....eg: the Patrol 3L and Landrover 2.5 etc etc.

Also, they apparently do wonderful things for the doof doof dudes in their WRX's etc.

Sorry to be a dooms-dayer, but I really think you won't see much benefit, if any......

Cheers

Roachie

Same, we fitted one the other day to a customers 100 series and it made 10Kw and 30Nm difference but overall it WILL keep egt's down on those long haul runs.

Ok ,first things first, did you move the boost sensing point from the comp housing to the point on the inetrcooer.

Secondly how much did you wind the fuel screw in after you fitted it.

Comp? no computer if that is what ur asking
Its a 1hz 4.2 diesel, with safari turbo and a brand new denco on it.
i did up the boost so it was around the 10 psi after the intercooler.

What i mean 9is the sensing point for the wastegate needs to be taken from after the intercooler and not from on the compressor cover of the turbo.

Exactly, when we fit a turbo kit we give them two flats of the 6mm screw,1/2 turn of advance and check power and EGT's and go from there.

We find 1HZ's suffer more from too much fuel than not enough.

Yes the denco system has a spot for boost sensor tubing. and its right on the neck of the manifold that conects to the exsisting manifold on the inlet.
so my reading is on the inlet side of the intercooler
