Daughter has just bought a 40ft bus all but completed except for air-conditioning and curtains/blinds.

Re Air-conditioning would like to purchase a split system similar to a house unit but with two inside units (one in the rear bedroom other in the living area) working off the one outside unit(housed in the old luggage compartment) What brand/model should daughter consider? approx cost? any traps re installation?

Re Curtains/Blinds We have curtains in our van, but friends have gone for the thin venetians blinds in their vans. Daughter thinks the blinds will rattle. Windows in the bus are down (continuous) one side of the bus and are large about 1m high by 1.5m long. I think the curtains will be bulky. Comments appreciated

Peter.
The air con may be more trouble than it's worth. one of the benefits of a large vehicle is that you don't have to use caravan parks. With the curtains we have an insulating film on the windows, better than curtains as you can see out but not in. If you fit a curtain rail you can hang your towels and tea towels on them if you are sensitive about other people. One of the lessons we have learned after many years of travelling is to keep things simple and carry the absolute minimum stuff. Eric

Doug.
That's correct, but in practice it has never bothered us as we are usually out in the bush at night. If some one decides to camp next to us they have to stand on a chair to see in, so we can either place a towel on the rail or just move away, it is so easy to move with our set up. Eric.

Probably not the answer you're after but does she really need a/c? How will she power it when not at a powered site? At night have the windows open and get a fan with a bowl of water in front of it to cool down.

Tint the windows the darkest possible and have curtains with simple rails top and bottom to keep sun out.

Curtains would be better than blinds because if they rip or need repair on the road then just fix them with a tea towel or similar. Pain in the bum to fix blinds.

Hope she enjoys her trip.
