I wondered if anyone can give me an idea what fuel ecenomy I could expect from either a GU Patrol 3.0 lt Turbo or a NS Pajero 3.2 lt Turbo towing a 1500kg dual axle caravan. Either are on my shopping list.
I have a GQ Patrol 4.2 lt dual fuel and love it but it's time to move on.

I have a 2006 3 lt.Patrol.I tow a 17 ft6 in.tandem caravan(pop top).If I keep my speed to about 95 km/per hour I consistently return 20 mpg.I think this equates to about 14 l/100km. I might add I use a calculator for the conversions. For some reason I always use mpg when I tow the van, to compare with previous ones. Average around town running seems to return 10 l/100 km.I have had this vehicle 20 months (60,000 km) & have logged the fuel consumption since new.

I am towing a 2.5t van behind a Pajero and over 33,000 klm of towing I averaged 6.7 klm per litre at 90klm/hr. I set the cruise control.
One of the interesting things we did was compared notes with other tow vehicles between service stations and the Pajero came up consistently 20% to 25% less fuel.
You will always get lots of arguments of what is better but I reckon driving the same road with about the same load at the same time between the same fuel outlets is pretty accurate.

3.0 TD Navara Twin Cab, and towing a Trak Shak, camper trailer, fully loaded up, 3.9 tonnes, I averaged 6.5 km / lt , over 6500 km last years " desert trip ".
That's on every kinda surface known to man. Happy with that !

Have heard the Pajero's are good on fuel too !

Cheers
