Can any one tell me if, purely on a short term basis, you can you subscribe for a month only basis , ie holidays ? I was thinking of the $89/1GB . I know it is expensive but I am prepared to pay for one month
Thanks in advance
Ian

Yeah, telstra allow you to change your browsing pack each month (or stop altogether). At least they do for the cheaper ones - I assume also for the $89 one as there's nothing on their website to suggest otherwise. Ask them when you ring to

I have not seen anywhere where you can just have it for a Month, you will find it will have to be for a 12 month contract , although those little useless CDMA wireless modems if puchased outright at $499 there was no set contract,

HI Ian F, as far as i know you get charged a data rate if you you use your mobile phone for a modem, depending on which carrier you are with. Telstra will let you use there dial up service via mobile phone or if you want cheap internet get the next g wireless bb as it will work anywhere, either usb or pcmcia card with the litle o bleep y antennea they have as
well for an extra $40 approx! If your with telstra then you can add it onto your bill and pay next month.

I just checked your post again , on the re-read I understand now what you mean , useing the Phone as a Modem and I presume to access Bigpond, Yes that can be done if you have a dial up plan , Instead of using the internal Modem that would normally be connected to a phone line you will use the Mobile as an external Modem , If you get a prepaid 1 month dial up from telstra and programm the laptop to use the phone as a modem ....Bobs your Uncle , ....been there, done that, keep your calls/browsing short unless your on a capped plan ie $49 will be about $250 in calls.

G'day Ian.
Your data pack seems a bit expensive. I'm on a monthly data pack of 20Mb for $10, also using NextG. The trick with Telstra is that they do not let you know when a cheaper deal on data becomes available.
