Just refilled the 8.5kg gas bottle for my caravan at the Metro, on Maitland Rd. at Abermain for $11.95. The bottle was dead empty. Beats exchange at Wollies
Caltex for 32 or Bunnings for 26, and I get to keep my six month old bottle. Cheering.

Agree Over here it costs $20 to refil at BCF. But Bunnings are a lot dearer. I always refill bottles. Have 3 so always run them out
before refilling.

I've been told (by a Bunnings staff member) that the price of a refill was deliberately raised above that of a swap and go bottle in order to force people off refilling their own bottles - there's no staff overhead involved for staff to stand around and monitor a bottle while it fills. The swap and go is more profitable, hence they "encourage" it by pricing the refills to be uncompetitive.
Not sure if it's general to Bunnings, or just the store in Vic I was at.

Just happened to be passing this servo mentioned above, and called in to fill up my auto gas, but they do not sell it, then see
sign for the LPG refill price, which the attendant tells me is their regular refill price. Funny enough, they also had the swap and go bottles. Probably more money in a refill for the servo, than selling the swap and go franchise bottles. Some bludger is alway after our hard earned. I know what I will be doing in the future. Bugger the quick fix. Enjoying the difference right now via a few longnecks of Tooheys Old.

while I am sure that the situation is probably true, somehow I cant imagine Bunnings holding a staff meeting and telling every one of those (mostly) halfwits ;
"that the price of a refill was deliberately raised above that of a swap and go bottle in order to force people off refilling their own bottles "
Now go and tell all our valued customers!

Just had an idea. Why can't the Explore Oz team set up a section within this wonderful site, where all sorts of money saving experiences can be brought to the members attention. There must be dozens of ideas, hints, experiences etc that can be accessed via the members section, to save us all a buck, that can be put to better use.
Cheers and beers, from Fred.

Hi all
I was reading this thread, and realised everyone is forgetting Bunnings own policy to beat other prices by 10%, I use it all the time, Just do a little homework on the phone then go and tell them you want a price comparison, they must honour it, and will.

That's fine Barry and Debbie, but if I find an outlet such as I found today I am not going to go running around looking for the nearest Bunnings just to claim their promise. Let them be fair dinkum in the first palce. We are not obliged to return to Bunnings for a committee meeting to get something cheaper. First in best dressed I say, and I shall always support the fair dinkum merchants.
Please note, that this post is in no way a Bunnings beat up, just an example, as I have purchased many genuine bargains there.
Cheers from Fred.

G'day fellow Exploroz viewers, we do gas bottle refills by the Kg, what we do is weigh the bottle, fill it then weigh it again, you are then charged $3.00 per Kg, sometimes it may cost $3.00 then sometimes it may cost $27.00 depends on the size of the bottle and how much went in, you would be supprised at how many customers come in thinking there bottle is almost empty only to find out that it's only taken 1 to 2 Kg.
How many times have you thought about getting a few mates over for a BBQ and your thinking to yourself, i only filled that 9Kg bottle the last BBQ we had, seems pretty full, oh
well, better to be safe than sorry, i'll go and swap it anyway, you leave the servo almost $30.00 lighter where it probably only needed 1Kg ( or less ) you don't pay for a full
tank of petrol if you only need 10 litres, even our gas supplier says we should be charging by the bottle, but morally i think it's wrong.
so if anyone is needing there bottles filled, we're at 92 Brickworks Rd, Kallangur,
Brisbane ( Northside )
Cheers, Dave.

Dave, I think your system should be law, just like weights and measures control every other consumable product.
