My baby is a Dec 02 TD Auto. It's the upgraded version, same as the 03 and 04 I believe???
It's only done 86000k's and seems to run
well enough, although having not driven many I wouldn't really know.
After having been driving it around for a while, it feels 'heavy' and I know it is but I thought it would perform slightly better that I was experiencing. I got a Dtronic and I do notice a difference. Especially the way it holds it speed better @ the 100k mark on inclines and from a standing start. However, I still think it feels like someone is 'holding on the back of it (so to speak) in my mind anyway....it's like the car wants to cruise along a bit better but something is holding it back!!!
That said, before I got the Dtronic I drove an 06 TD auto with a heap of fruit on it(roof rack, bar work,
HF radio etc and it felt a lot 'lighter' more responsive and more willing to go...which leads me to my questions
1/ Is there any difference in the engines between
mine and the later models?
2/ Has anyone else experienced what I've mentioned?
3/ Could there be a few simple things I can do to make sure the car is running at its best?
According to the log book, it had it's 80,000k service as required.
I may just be a bit anal...but I like my cars to run
well, not only perform
well and I'm happy to spend a few $$$ to make it that way.
Could the sloppy standard
suspension make it feel this way?
Any thoughts please?
I've also posted this question on the Lcool
forum.
Cheers

I think
suspension (Ride Height) handling and tyres (air pressures) have a lot to do with the way a vehicle feels.
What are these like? have you checked air pressures? and the type of tyres fitted to the vehicle.
Are
the springs sagging, compared to others of the same year?
You can always try out a few by calling in to used car yards with the pretence of looking at buying another car.
Hope this helps.

Although I don,t own a TD 100 I have 3 100 series, they are not built like a race car, the
suspension will not impede your cars performance unless the thing is sitting on the ground.
Unless your Tyres are under inflated they wouldn't hurt the performance either.
One would suggest a dyno tune at the least, or take it to a Toyota Dealership or a Turbo specialist.
Cheers Steve.

If you are running say MTR's or a similar 'aggressive' tread tyre they have increased rolling resistance which will make the vehicle feel "heavy".

Has your 100 T/D auto got the 5 speed box or the old 4 speed box. The later slush box performs a lot better with better gear ratios. The acceleration and pulling power improved when the new gearbox was added to the 2003 model.
