Hi
We are visiting friends in
Childers over new years and though we may as
well hop over to Fraser Island as
well.
Have a TD Troopy towing a Tvan, any hints or things i should know about the Island. What will be the cost of taking our rig across? Is there fresh
water on the island? Is it worth taking our fishing rods?
Thanks Lyndon & Bernadette

Mate, best place to visit in QLD.
New years will be as busy as the M1 in peak hour. You'll probably be restricted to the
beach camp sites unless you've already booked as the campgrounds will be full.
From Inskip the ferry will cost $135 for that rig. Make sure you get the ferry close to low tide so you can go around
hook point and avoid the inland bypass road. It's a very corrugated POS.
Read the leaflets about dingos and TAKE NOTE of what they say.
Water? no problems.
Fishing rods? You betcha. Some of the best beach fishing you'll ever come across.
I'm jealous......;-(

Just to clarify, $135 is based on my camper. If you're TVan is longer it will cost more....

If you are in
Childers, you wouldn,t even think about catching the barge at Inskip, catch the one from River Heads and save roughly 100klms driving

Fair call. I only ever go from Inskip as I come from Brissy. What does the barge cost from River Heads? Might still be cheaper to go from Inskip?

Lyndon,
In addition to the $135.00 barge fee there is also a Vehicle Permit charge of $35.40 (good for 30 days) and
camp site fees of $4.50/person/night.
If only going for a few days, it can get to be a fairly expensive exercise, but as others have said .....
well worth it IMHO.
Geoff

The eastern top end of fraser is one of the best fishing spots in australia if not the world . You wont get your van to the top . Leave it at the
camp and head up taking strict adherance to the tides . Dont travel 2 hours either side of high tides .
