Carry a 10mm socket and ratchet at all times.

The hose at the back that goes into the intercooler blew off on the way home last night. Very slight incline but I didn't think the motor was under that much load (even though I was towing a boat).

I wasn't carring any tools, only the ones that come with the Patrol that are in back. I couldn't get the engine cover off so I couldn't get access to the intercooler. Luckily someone stopped and ducked home to grab their socket set.

I only had a service done last Wed and they obviously don't check much. All clamps were loose. Ensure all clamps on hoses to intercooler and turbo are all tight!

Even bigger TIP, get it checked out cause the only reason they blow hoses is because the airflow meter bleep s itself and they overboost.

Do not ignore this ,we replace these airflow sensors weekly.

No load towing a boat?????

You HAVE to be kidding!!!!

Do what Matt said...get it checked, there were heaps of early 3L owners that thought they would stop the hoses from blowing off by using twin hose clamps....$8k later they realised that was an over boost warning that they ignored!!!

I wasn't towing the 7.0m Whittley Cruismaster - I'd only use the cruiser for that!

Leroy,

what year and how many Km has it done? Obviously a GU but if it's pre - late 2002, I'd be getting the motor checked real quick. Given the history of the 3lt motors in the earlier GU's (to which I've been a victim), it could be an indicator that she's about to go BANG!

It a 2004 with 60k km. One of the models that's had all the engine issues fully resolved ;-)

Performance is exactly how it's always been so I doubt there is an issue with the MAF but I will have a chat with the dealer. I did notice all the clamps were not tight though.

The dealers dont know bleep , take it to your nearest reputable diesel shop and ask them to check the boost under full load,it normally requires a special pipe fitted for the take off point as they dont run a positive pressure wastegate.

There will be no fault code even if it is stuffed. The boost sensor on the intercooler only monitors the boost it doesnt put the vehicle into limp mode or restrict boost when it senses overboost.

Thanks Matt. Does anyone know a reputable diesel shop in the Albury/Wodonga area that can check this?
