Hi all,
Been a while.
The primary in the Pajero has finally gone. Five long years of service all over Autralia . It was an Amaron 80Ah.
My question for the Battery people in the know is am I right in thinking that this was a deep cycle battery? I have a pirana 150 watt dual battery system hooked up to the amaron and another 70ah deep cycle battery.
I do not want to mix the batteries up ( as in a starter up againt a deep cycle ) as I have learnt that lesson in the past.
I would idealy like to replace it with the same Amaron battery as I had such an amazing life out of this one but I want to make sure I am buying the righ one.
Advise would be appreciated .
Merry Xmas all.
Jason

If what you are referring as your primary battery was the original battery fitted to your vehicle there is no way it would be a deep cycle battery. There is no problem having mixed batteries when you have a battery isolator (Pirana 150) to separate the batteries when the alternator is not charging them (apart from the fact that a standard vehicle will never charge a battery to its rated capacity.)

If it worked for you for that long, and you're happy with it, it's the right one.
Go buy another. ;-)

If your battery lasted five years then it was certainly being fully charged.

that is why I recon it was a deep cycle. It was in the vehicle when I bought it and was brand new then.
I tested it perioically as I run two engels and need the capacity. There is no way two engels on freeze in hot weather will continue for 2-3 days with one secondary.

If it is rated at 80AH and has been in the car as the starting battery then it's probably a Calcium/calcium battery. My Disco runs a 105AH 860CCA Calcium/calcium battery as standard starter battery, my original battery was a Delfi 920CCA 105AH Calcium/calcium battery.

If it was in a Pajero and it lasted 5 years, then it wasn't a Calcium/Calcium Battery.
Pajero's have always charged at 14.4 volts and Ca/Ca batteries require a much higher voltage to charge fully (which Disco's do).
