Jimbo - VIC
Three years ago we bought a Camper Trailer. We boody
well loved it.
After a year we got sick of it and went to a Jayco Eagle Camper Trailer/Semi Caravavan. Didn't we think that was the best thing since sliced bread?
A year later we went to a Caravan. Oh, the luxury and no need to pack or organise. We thought we had died and gone to heaven. Bastard of a thing to tow, however.
We're now back to a superbly organised Camper Trailer. Light and easy to tow, the car drives like there is nothing behind it.
The main thing that swung us back to a Camper was the sadly lacking availabilty of a Q/S bed in vans.
The 20 grand in the bank makes 'er indoors happy.

Jimbo
You think your an orphan. Started off as a kid in a potato sack. Moved up to a swag, then the tent. Last fifteen years sleeping in the car.
Purchased one of those silly Jayco camper trailer things you can't take anywhere. That didn't last long.
I've now gone to a purpose built trailer that affords some comfort, and I can pretty much take it to most
places.
Have to admit though, that sleeping in the car is uncomplicated.
Regards
Kim

Jimbo.
Sleeping in the car is the best. You just have to have a bigger car, Have a look at a VW or a MB Sprinter Eric.

Jimbo,
Know what you are going thru. Two tents, camper trailer, caravan, camper trailer, off road caravan.
Each time we swore we were happy and marvelled at the wonder of the current mode of being bush. I guess you are just meant to be somewhere (else) at any given time.
Anyway enjoy where you are going.

Like some competition campers & vans are growing bigger & bigger, just look at those 5th wheelers getting about. Sadly many have long forgotten why they are out there. Like you Jim I've had a go at towing most things and have come full circle and now given the chance prefer the simplicity of a swag over a van almost any day :-)
Cheers Craig.............

Hi Jimbo I did the same thing, Started off with a small campertrailer and had it for about a year then moved to a Jayco outback the wife loved it but I wasn't that happy towing it, we then went back to a tent and with three small children it was hell setting up and packing up each time in the end we ended back with a campertrailer but a bit larger this time to accommodate the kids and hopefully this is what we will stay with now I can tow just about anywhere we like to go and the car doesn't even know its there.

When we started to plan for our trip, we started looking at my father-in-laws old camper trailer, but it need a fair bit of work, new canvas, and it had no kitchen. Then we went to a Jayco camper trailer, almost brought one, but then we were told that even though the setting up is easy, when on the road, it not a simple issue, making a cup of tea, the whole thing would have to be unpacked to get access. Then we looked at the expandas, we have three kids, plenty of room, access when we on the road, but the issue was canvas on the end, and the having to have flies/bags to stop the canvas getting wet.
Most caravans are not suited to family travellers, single beds, no bunks, but then we saw the Rapid poptop, with it double drop down beds, we liked it and were going to buy a new one, on the road, on the way over east because they are cheaper then in WA, but we managed to pick one up here, just after stamp duty was removed from caravans. It is six berth, has plenty of room and does not need flies or bags for the canvas.
If we like the caravaning holiday, we will upgrade the rapid and get a van with bunks, being that my oldest is turning 15, I don't think he is going to like
camping with mum and dad for much longer anyway, though family bunk vans are are few and far between, in WA. The almost 15 year old prefers his hoochie/ swag.

You have done the circle EH!!
You had just got the Jayco when I camped with you in Victoria 2 yeasr ago.
That was our first trip in the Coromal Sillhoutte and I must say we are very happy with the Coromal. We got the one with single beds inside so no push out beds on the ends. I feel it is in between a caravan and a camper. Even though they are refered to as a "Camper Trailer". It tows great behind the Terracan. The add ons like extra
water tank, 12 volt wind up system and the solar system all fitted have been great as
well.
I think a caravan will be a long way off for me. It is all about horses for courses.
Cheers

I reckon a nice RV with a small 4WD tow car and simple
camping gear would come close though.
