I have a dilemma, I have been tossing up for months whether to have a chip fitted or not, I tow a Kimberley camper and the extra grunt would be good but not really necessary (toys for boys think). I have heard of cracking heads, does anyone have a good answer or steer me in the right direction.

Big bo.

Now is the only time you own
Decide now what you will,
Place faith not in tomorrow
For the clock may then be still

I have heard from my mechanic that he has seen 3 non chipped ones do it too between 90,000 and 110,000km including a series 1 of the current shape. But no D4D motors yet.

At over $4000 for diesel/gas it is a little more expensive than a chip @$1500. The power and economy aren't as good but you still have some money in your sky rocket.

I have a 2002 95 series TD 5 Spd manual. Fiitted a Dtronic when they were first available for the 1KZTE. That was around 80000 km or 4 years ago.

The car has done almost 140,000 km all up, a lot of the long distance stuff towing a caravan.

No cracked head yet..he says as he reaches for a touch of some wooden furniture.

Couple the Dtronic with a good free flow exhaust and I can get consistent fuel figures of around 10-11L/100km.

You will get better bottom end pick up, reduced turbo lag and better torque. Some do suggest the DPChip is better but not cheaper. I'd steer clear of the Steinbuer seems a little bit of a bodgy fitment.

I was reading a similar question on Prado Point and apparently the Europe based Toyotas have a factory chip/module available for the diesels developed by Toyota Racing. Why don't we have the same here?

Mine is costing $3900 to gas with EcoShot and I will get $2000 back from the government.

Better economy too Twinkles, on top of the power surge. Thing is will the Hilux stand the torque? Burst up that Tiger Cat Track ;-)))
