Just a follow up on the R150F gear box previously mentioned in post 52467. The Toyota workshop has replaced quite a few items in the gearbox including bearings, shafts and gears. A test drive has revealled all the undesirable noises have disappeared and the shift has improved. No explanation as to the cause. The sludge may give some indication as the change from castrol synthetic gear oil from a mineral based oil may have contributed to the accelerated wear. The gearbox has been cleaned out and a quality gear oil (with cleaning agent) installed. We will see of the next few thousand Klms if the noise returns. For now I will stay away from synthetics and exaggerated oil makers claims.

Zodarp,

Usually when you post a message it is customary to check for replies and questions that other forum members might have for you and to respond. Thats what forums are for.

So could you please extend me the courtesy fo replying to my question I placed on your original post? I'll ask again...

Can you tell us the car's history?

How old is the car?

Turbo or petrol?

How many KM has it travelled before the problem started?

Have you towed a van or heavy camper trailer or boat? Did you use 5th gear when towing?

regards
Wiz
