I have just got a GU Patrol 2.8 TD and noticed the battery symbol on the dash is lit up slightly.does this mean that the alternator is not working properly.
Thanks

Giffo,

If the battery light is on but not very bright it could be a bad earth problem.

Made sure that all the earth leads are clean and tight on the battery and the body. There should also be a good earth to the motor as well.

If you have a multi meter you could check how many volts the alternator is pumping out.

However if all this is OK it sounds like a trip to the local auto electrician.

Im my experience these are quite difficult to track down.

I have gone down the path of trying o find where the bad earth is, and have ended up adding extra earth straps battery to motor, battery to body and motor to body.

I found that fixed the problem.

Sounds like the brushes in the alternator could be on the way out also.

Stress less :) My 2.8 has done it for the 1.5 years I have owned it.
Both Batteries charge fine.
