Everyone who tows must recognize that they are in high-risk exercise and behave accordingly. Horrible story – whole family gone.

Sounds like inattention was to blame. Accident happened on a slight curve. One vehicle drifted into the path of the other.
Don't know that towing had anything to do with it...

Of course it does! He would be able to escape if not tow anything. Thus what I have said one need to be extra careful when towing.

is being asleep in attention.....if asleep it would not matter if one was towing or not...so what has towing got to do with it if it is so

Quote: the car's trailer jackknifed, causing the Commodore to veer across the road and straight into the semitrailer's fuel tank.

I would say Towing had a fair amount to do with it.

Flappa,

With the Police investigation still to be completed and the Coroners inquest to be held, you would rather believe the newspaper reporter ????

Please don't believe everything you read mate.

Reeks of inexperience and probably impatience
Overtaking with a fully loaded car and loaded trailor, caught on wrong side of road and panicked

as for the towing it was a contributing factor- not a cause (only going from what I surmise from the report)

Well, it would be ridiculous to proclaim “towing kills”. Exactly as “speed kills”. Neither kill, but both require additional attention to what are you doing and if treated improperly greatly contribute to severity of accident.

This accident would of happened even if they had no trailer on, a witness said they started to overtake about 1500m before they hit the truck.....might of been asleep.

What is behaving accordingly?

I should of said this accident MAY of happened even if they had no trailer on.

Adding to this the number of vehicles towing that we see with the front in the air and the back of the vehicle scraping the ground then towing is unbelievable....why don't the police crack down on them.

The four things I hate on country roads are-

1) Caravaners who are going on there yearly trip.
2) People with a new tow vehicle and caravan or camper trailer who don't know how to drive in a safe manner.
3) Local people who are coming home from work who sit on 70Kph in a 100Kph zone.
4) People who would sooner watch the scenery then the road.

3) maybe they are aware of and are driving to the local conditions....

In any case, a tragedy that may remind us to play it safe on the roads.

How do you play it safe on the road..nobody is going to go out and say "today i might kill someone" just for the hell of it.

I get sick of people saying we should drive slower, be more cautious of other drivers, not do this not do that and so on.

A lot of people are to blasé about driving.

I clock up about 1000k a week and the stuff you see every day is unbelievable and it does not involve speed just stupidity but the law don't care about that because it doesn't bring money in.

They need to get people back to the basics of driving and common sense and courtesy like don't use indacators $500 fine and 6 points or cutting in front of some one to do a turn $1000 and 10 points.

There was another fatal accident on the Adelaide to Victor Harbor road overnight and now there is a big ho ha about the road being dangerous...I have driven that road many times and do not have a problem with it and I think it is a safe road, maybe the authorities should get of fat A$&S*S and look at why the road is dangerous to somea few drivers.

But as they say speeding kills but it is the smallest factor in road accidents.

Olcooolone,
Gotta say I agree with you 100 %. Like yourself I drive 500 - 1000 km every week around Melbourne for work and the number of just plain stupid, idiotic things I see the average brain dead doing while in control of a motor vehicle is mind numbing.
Having said that I know I'm not the greatest driver ever but at least I like to think I try to think while I'm behind the wheel.

To think I wasted all that money on driving lessons and a licence when I could have simply got one out of a cereal box like most people seem to have....

Yer talking crap, KSV..High risk...pffftttt!

The truck was towing as well.

Life is what you make of it.

Make a mistake and you may pay for it. Sometimes you get away with it. Its a matter of chance.

Cheers

Hey bguys lighten up a bit for onece the headlines didn't involve a 4WD.

Its a terribl story but one that is only too common. We have to ke sure that when we are on the road we do the right things othrwise one mistake and you could be gone.........orothers of course.

Its a sad story Serg

The performance envelope of our vehicles is significantly reduced by towing and even when we are loaded up for a trip , and so requires the extra care you suggest.
