Seasons Greetings to all of you.

I have a Cruiser trayback and the sound system is just the pits. Has anyone had any experience with squeezing a whiz bang system into one of these vehicles?

Any ideas, websites, installers (preferably in Perth) would be appreciated.

In the meantime have a great Xmas and hope all your travel plans come good in 2008.

cheers

Take the sound system out of the 200 series and put it in the tray back LOL

i was thinking the same thing....

like when adam and jamie ripped the insides out of that mercedes on mythbusters and replaced the interior with one almighty driver and cone. they used the drive shaft as a crank shaft to drive the it and it blew the sunroof out.

Good quality 10x7's mounted sideways up the door from the bottom under the quarter window. Get the bass in there and cranks heaps better. 10x7 you need a spacer depending on the depth of speaker some are shallow take measurements. Otherwise 6x9's should go straight in the same way and still give good results.

Just had a quick look on ebay they dont seem to do 10x7 anymore just a round 10 inch.
Never mind they were heaps dearer than 6x9 anyway so probably a better option for good quality 6x9

Alberts in Joondalup did my 79 back in august and I'm happy so far.

Like mentioned the door had to be built out to get the depth and the door pocket moved back. Tweeters are mounted on the windscreen pillars and a bazooka behind the drivers seat to get the bass sorted and the AMP is mounted on the back of the cab.

Blaupunkt subwoofer behind the seat (or even under, it works on my troopy) and surface mount Blaupunkt speakers bolted up in the roof or also behind seats. And an amp... Std system is I think the worst car stereo I ever heard but now the troopy really can actually provide a decent sound. The blaupunkt stuff was all pretty compact and fairly easy to fit...

Hope you also have a good Xmas and New Year (I hit the road Friday from base in Ghana to Mali - YES)

Bass sounds are very non-directional so can mount a sub-woofer anywhere.

The Pajero premium sound-sytem has the 10 inch sub-woofer at the far rear.

After spending quite a few $$$, efforts and time on car sound systems I have concluded that it does not worth it at all. Does not matter what you do car environment is total cr@p from acoustic point of view. Plus even up-market cars do have a lots of noise – forget about LC! Thus listening to classic does not make any sense in car – due to noise it is just impossible to get 90dB range. So very little remains – either do what teens do (i.e. put mega-amplifier and 500WRMS speakers and make it so loud that you cannot hear any noise), or just install two decent 2 or 3 way speakers in door and live with some distortions. I went second road due to possibility of deaf and money consideration and never listen to classical in car – for this reason I have proper setup at home. BTW MP3 itself (main media nowadays) very mediocre quality anyway, so why bother?!?

Digital media quality totally depends on compression - with a high capacity playback device (obviously std ipod on 128kbs over an FM transmitter is crap) it is quite possible to enjoy decent sound. I fully agree about audio quality in a car, but the original working toyota (trayback/troopy) set up really takes some beating inn terms of being utter crap. I don't regret the effort or cost in improving it... It will never match Led Zep on CD or vinyl at home but it is a step in teh right direction.

Yep, you right compression dependent. I meant “in general” of course, like 128bps wide spread standard. Zero-compression digital (i.e. CD) not that bad, but vinyl somewhat more “live” or “warm”. But for vinyl appreciation over CD quite decent system has to be used, because it is not such easy to pick up with average-quality system. “Standard” quality MP3, however, IMHO sounds much worse that even good-quality tape, forget about high-end one or CD. I guess this is whole tendency nowadays trade quality for convenience.

Problem being the LC79 is really bad and given I aim to spend more time in the truck then sitting around at home it makes an investment in improving the truck worth while.

Cheers

A mate had some 10" splits in his 75. Tweeters were on the door but as said above can be mounted on dash or A pillar.

His was a pretty good sound, but at highway speeds it needed to be up fairly loud, which gets to you after a few hundred K's.
