Thanks Mamba. Would you be able to say whether or not the details are accurate, in your experience?

As the above poster says; it's small - far too small, it stop at 59 40 000N so doesn't cover Corryong et al.

I am unimpressed with the Hema maps in general.

OK Mike. What about accuracies of detail? What digital maps would you recommend for 4x4 tracks over the High Country?

Vic Fire maps (search the file sharing sites), NSW 1:25000 topographic, Rooftop Maps (recently published a new map of far east Vic/west NSW - but may not be available electronically yet?).

I cannot comment on the accuracy of the Hema map, although I have it available I choose not to use it - if by accuracy you are referring to the notes on the map regarding fuel etc - I would not trust them at all, things change too much for a map to be accurate, for long, in that regard.

PS. The TumAus software has excellent vector maps of Victoria only, with the same level of details as 1:25000 topo. The software itself has a few shortcomings but is very usable and will cost about $150 iirc.

That TumAus Map is great but too pricey for me.

Desert,

This is a good question and hence the reason we are adding user comments and feedback on all maps and books in the shop system. It will be launched very soon along with a total new shop system.

PS: We use and reccommend the Rooftop products for the High Country - however we do not travel this way all the time (a long way from Perth). You can view them in the shop Rooftop Maps

David, Funny enough I was just having a look at the Rooftop site when you responded. This now leads to my next question on how much overlap does the Rooftop maps have. ie, do the three main High country CD's cover the area from disc to disc and overlap, or are there areas that are not covered?I realise this is a hard question to answer, to wit; If I wanted ti use back tracks and 4x4 tracks from around Woods Point easterly to say Dargo, would those maps suffice?

Desert,

Interesting question and it has come up twice in the last few days about coverage and overlap. I have been re-writing the online shop system and working on a system to show you map coverage comparasions which would allow you to view the coverage overlays on a single map. However it is not finished, I am hoping to do some more work on this today.

At this stage the only coverage diagrams we have are shown in each of the products, so you need to open each one. However there is another trick using Places. If you go to say Dargo in places at the bottom of the page is a listing of maps - every one of these maps covers Dargo and is is order of ascending scale (so the most accurate, smaller scale) are first. If you then click on these maps you will see the coverage.

I hope this helps, the new shop system supports zoom in & out on the coverage map so you can see right down to very close that the map covers your required area alas this is not currently live.

I hope this helps, keep the queries comming it helps me develop the system to deliver the results you want. Let me know if the Places system navigation helps?

I was amazed that Rooftop don't have the overlay drawing for their own maps!

What is even more amazing is that NONE of the main stream mapping companies have this data. Funny not only do they not have it shown anywhere none of them have it in a digital format. All the coverages we have on the shop have been entered by us, it takes hours to analyse maps and work out the coordinates and plug it into our mapping system. So the data we have built in this respect is very valuable and one of the major tasks in adding shop products to the system.

I am wanting to take this data along a little furthur to allow you to analyse coverages directly in our system to assist you in making selections. We hope you like a use these systems as it does take a lot of resources to bring them to the market.

That overlay is on the maps, but it needs to be on an actual map to show map continuity.
