Hi Guys
Just after a bit of clarification. Have searched this and other forums and have read some conflicting reports regarding the condition of
Davies Plain track wrt towing an off road trailer up it.
I'm looking at taking the family up to the High Country next week for a few days over Christmas and am tossing up whether to stay at
Tom Groggin (will it be a bit crowded after Christmas but before New Year?) or whether to head across to Davies Plain Hut or Charlie
Creek Hut via
Davies Plain Track (where it should be a bit less crowded?).
Our setup is a diesel Paj with all terrain tyres and will be towing an O'Briens offroad box trailer.
many thanks in advance.

portlester,
There should not be any problem towing the trailer along Davis High Plain track.
There is one section that is very narrow but I think that has been widen up last year.
If Davis Hut is packed there is another
camp site to the left as you cross the
creek before the hut.
Charlie
Creek Hut has been very quite since the fires but the long drop has been rebuilt.
I will be down that way from the 29th Dec until the 1st Jan. Another year gone. This year has gone so quick.

I did that journey about 3 weeks ago - it's pretty rocky with some steep sections but unless it's very wet or you have a seriously heavy trailer I think you'll be OK.

I'd agree with mike.
I wouldn't stay at
Tom groggin as the cicada's are quite oppressive.
Be prepared to come across tracks blocked from large fallen timber - ie you may need to turn around.
Travelled the track 2 weeks ago, and considered it to be in v.good condition.

Good point! I'd forgotten the cicadas! We almost needed ear plugs against the little devils.
And fallen trees may be an issue too (take a chainsaw) we removed a couple but had to detour around a very big and expansive one which needed serious equipment to clear - I don't think you'd get a trailer around that detour - so, as pt says, be prepared to turn back.
Otherwise... have a great time - it's God's own country up there :)

Gidday portlester. Go to site 14077 in
Places which has our pix of the hut, the ford etc. We did the track from
Tom Groggin to the hut and it started to rain. Needless to say we got out before it turned into a slippery slide. The hut area was packed with horse riders but Groggin is huge and has tons of space. Cheers, warrie

True, but that didn't stop the two utes of youngsters with their accompanying music
camping 50m away from me 12 months ago.
As TG is accessible by 2WD from the NSW side I wouldn't
camp there again except, perhaps, midweek out of season.

Thanks guys for the info.
Looks like we will head across the Murray and
camp around Davies Plain Hut.
Aiming to be up there from 23 Dec for 5 or 6 days or until the crowds hit, before we head back to spend New Years with friends in
Alexandra.
cheers
