Howdy folks, hows things?
Can I pick your brain for a second?
I'm about to pick up a 96 troopy with the trusty 1HZ motor. I'm thinking about whacking on an aftermarket turbo.
Has anyone got any recommendations for what turbo? I am in Vic.
Cheers in advance & merry xmas...
Ro

Howdy - from
Adelaide here, but Alltrac fitted and AXT to our 80 series 1HZ and we are just chuffed with that one! Conservative 7PSI setting gave us 1.5 - 2 gear improvement over the trip with a section from Kyancutta to
Port Augusta in a "before & after" comparo. We also achieved 9% improvement in fuel economy!
Cheers - Mobi

Hi Ro
I have done a few things to my 1HZ.
Firstly i purchased a safari turbo from a wrecker, put in a 3 inch mandrel right through, and since then wacked in a denco
water to air intercooler kit, and lastly new injectors and reco pump from
cooma diesls. No i havent dyno tuned the beast yet, but the combination of what has been done has made my exhaust temp run around the 260 - 280 deg on around the 100 KLM with average terain. i did have the pump advanced by the reputable mechanic and i turned the fuel up 1/8 turn.
above all the improvement in power, the othere benefit i have found is that i have been able to travel further on a tank.
if you dont want to get a new one, then you have the option to find cheap parts from-
www.findapart.com.au.

We've had Turbo on our 1hz Troopy now for 8 years.
It's a TurboDynamics (now Denco I think).
Cruising fuel consumption 10+ l/100k
Power output about 60kw
Torque- more than enough (about 400Nm)
I fitted a EGT gauge couple of weeks back. Does what it sposed to do- peaks at 500 deg if I really load it up. Normal high speed cruising temp. about 350.
At this stage- all good !!

I have DTS turbo (now MTQ) on my 1HZ 80 and very happy with it. Would recommend. Their main place in
Laverton and they have branch in Dandenong. Talking to both of them (one in close proximity of my main office and another one to my main client) I found out that Dandenong people do not understand what they talk about, while in
Laverton they have quite a few very knowledgeable fellows. If I would not do fitting by myself, then I would definitely prefer it to be fit by people who actually made it.
Good Luck.
