Got 5 x ROH track 2 16x7 rims fitted with Coopers ATR for bitumen work. Those are off another troopy (older than
mine which is a 1994) and practically new. A bargain...
well may be. I tried to fit then over the weekend but at the front, they just slightly touch the brake calipers first fin. I went to a few tyre
places and they all think that it is the right offset. I have seen many post about grinding the fin a little but I am not sure I am 100% happy with that solution. Spacers are illegal in Victoria. I checked other 75 with ROH
wheels and they all seems to be very close to the calipers. Is there a minimal clearance required or say, 1 or 2 mm is enough. Appreciate all comments. thanks.

Just grind the offending material off the brake caliper (so long as if it's only a few mm)- no probs...

The 75 series required only 15"
wheels if my memory serves me so your 16" wheel providing they are the correct offset should clear???
Has someone fitted a different series caliper for some reason???
An inch is as good as a mile clearance wise so I would just grind enough to clear the rim.
Cheers

Not sure about calipers. They seems pretty standard. I actually think that 15" will just clear them because, for the same offset, the angle will be a little greater than for a 16". Once the wheel is torqued, they really just rub the fin so grinding sound more and more like an option. Thanks.

I have a 1997 75 series Troopy that I first fitted 7in ROH T2 rims to and now have 8in ROH T2 on.
They are close to the calipers but never ever touch.
Would suggest it is the offset that is the problem.

Agree with Lucy,
I too have 75 series Troopy fitted with ROH T2 16 x 8" rims
and not a problem.
Try a different offset.
Cheers

Grind. It's only about 2mm off the offending fin. I have just gone from 15's to 16's and had the same issue. It's not the offset, but the shape of the wheel centre.

Hi,
They sound like nissan offset to me.
The difference in offset on a hilux for example (toyota to nissan offset) is about 1.5 to 2mm enough to scrape.

Dave

Thanks all. I did a bit more research and it seems that ROH does not have 16x7 T2 rims for 75 series. Their application guide indicates 16x8 (or 15x7) so that confirm most answers. The difference in offset seems to be only 2 mm so even in 8" they must be pretty close to the caliper. 16x7 seems to be OK for Nissan and 60 series. Anybody running 16x7 on a 75 (obviously not ROH brand)?

Hi dc, I have 16x8 with 315/75r16 on my 1997 75 troopy. Old size was 15x8 33 12.5r 15.

Hi Craigzy, from your post you had to grind even for the 16x8? agree that if the wheel centre was just a little different it'll be OK.

Yup I had to grind about 2mm off the 1st rib from centre. It was a tapered grind 2mm closest to centre of hub, and about 1.5mm off towards outer edge. Hope that makes sense. Yes this was for the 16x8 steel rockcrawlers.

DC - I'm back.
After your reply somewhere above that ROH don't make a 16x7 for a 75 Troopy, I fully admit that I thought -bullchit they don't - because I specifically ordered a set of 16x7 ROH Trak II for a set of coopers 235/75/16's and duly had these tyres fitted to the said 16x7 rims.
Or so I thought - an inspection this afternoon revealed the
B a s t a r d s fitted them to 16x8 ROH Trak II's with out saying a word. (LOL).
So last year I decided to upgraded the tyres to 265/75/16's and had them fitted to a new set of 16x8's.
As the Coopers on the old '16x7' rims were only half worn I kept them and fitted them to a new CT I had built in 2006.
So there you go, the 16x8 ROH Trak II rims (both of the above) do not touch or scrape the brake calipers on my 1997 1HZ Troopy.
Just as an aside,
mine came off the production line in late 1997 and has a few suttle differences, such as a different A/C compressor header plate with different propiles for the inlet and outlet pipes. Also a slight difference in the Alternator drive belts.
Toyota spare parts dude put it down to either newer component design/model and/or new component supplier for production run.
So it is possible that there has been a slight change in caliper profiles between yours and
mine.
I do agree I was concerned at the closeness of the rim centre to the calipers, however I was assured that it had 'plenty of clearance' and was nothing to worry about.
I have flogged it around centre,
Broken Hill,
Flinders Ranges,
Googs Track etc etc and nothing has touched or scraped yet.
